I just can't get rid of the ear mites the new cat has... I must say the
internet provides good insight though. Now even the dog which we have since
six years without problems has them :-(  Somebody told me of a possible
injection. I paid $160 for this cat in the shelter plus $80 for the second
lot of injections, should I go back to the vet and complain once more (for
the third time)? Argh...

Whoa. Compared to the area I live in, your shelter is very expensive!! We adopt
spayed animals with vaccinations for $70. Anyway, ask your vet about the ear
mite vax. It worked very well with my old cat. Also, doesn't Revolution control
ear mites also? Sometimes they are persistent little buggers to get rid of.
Boots had them most recently, and the vet cleaned her ears out very well, sent
us home with the drops, and we got rid of them...but I've had cats before that
weren't so easy to cure. Your shelter kitty probably had a bad case of them. It
seems like lots of shelter cats do. Good luck!

Yes the revolution is supposed to take care of the ear mites. You need to
give it for a few months though. We started Boots on Revolution and a month
later the vet said he still had them. After another 2 doses he's mite free.
I liked the drops better. We used them on Tiggy years ago. They may have
been messy but they cleared up the mites a lot faster.

How do you apply revolution? On the neck or into the ear?
I asked another vet. She said they used to inject kittens suffering from
ear mites.
I guess I'll go back to the vet who runs the shelter from which I got the
cat. He's bound to be interested too that the whole thing will clear up.
It's a nuisance though. :-(

It's applied to the back of the neck.

Have you tried mineral oil? A few drops into each ear once a day for about a
month might be enough to kill the ear mites. If you have a multi-cats household
you will need to apply the treatment to all of your cats simultaneously, even
if the other cats might not have symptoms of ear mites. Hope this helps.

Ask for Acarexx dosage for the ears - it is the same/silimar active
ingredient as Revolution (Ivermectin), but a lot less expensive and it
is applied directly to the ears.  One dosage does it.

Good luck,
