Does anyone know anything about the bin mutilcolored rats they sell in
pet stores?   One of my cats came out of the woods carrying one like a
kitten.  Since the rat has black and white markings I'm guessing that
he (a fixed male)  thought it was a kitten because he brought it right
to us without hurting it.  I think maybe it's a  pet that got away
because it's pretty tame.  Any suggestions on what to feed it.

RAT FOOD!

I just could not resist that answer.  Anyway, check with a local pet supply
store, they should be able to answer your question.  Then again, they might
tell you to feed it Rat Food.

I don't have any rat food suggestions, but that's  a really cute story. Can you
upload a picture and post the link for us? I'd love to see that!

Rats are marvelous pets -- the only problem is that they have
very short lifespans.  :(  I used to have three.

As to what to feed, rats are omnivores.  He can eat table
scraps for now, but hie thee to a Petsmart (or whatever) and pick up
either some lab blocks or some of the rat seed mix.

There's lots of info on keeping rats on the internet -- do a
google search for Fancy Rat and you'll get all the advice you'll ever
need.

That is a pet rat. Wild rats are black, grey or brown. The mixed colors are
from breeding. You can buy it rat food at the pet store. They also like fresh
fruits, veggies, nuts and seeds. If you cat accidentally got a tooth into his
flesh, he may need clavamox antibiotics. Clean and watch where the cat grabbed
him. Pet rats are great pets but they only live about three years. Cats can get
along with rats. Seems like your cat is like mine. My cat brought me two baby
squirrels. She treated them like kittens, cleaning them, trying to nurse them.
She thinks squirrels are her kittens.
