My wife and I will be moving from California to Massachusetts and want to
know the best way to transport our cat. I have a regular cab pickup with a
camper shell/cap/topper and wonder if at night would it be O.K. to put her
in the back when it is cooler out. If I keep her in the cab, she will have
to be in a small carrier which is the safest during the hot hours but I
would like for her to be able to move around in the truck bed later in the
evening. If I do put her in the truck bed, she will also be able to eat,
drink and use the litter box. I actually got this camper top/topper/cap for
her. For those that have done it before, what do you recommend to give her
prior to the trip and throughout to calm her nerves? I don't want to knock
her out, just ease her a little bit. Thanks for any and all feedback.

One thing you do NOT want to do, is ever have
the cat loose when there is any possibility
of someone opening a door. People have been
heartbroken when their cat accidentally got
out of a vehicle at a rest stop etc and they
never were able to recover the cat.
Can't you get a cage large enough so she has
access to litter/food/water during the day too?
That's a long trip to have a cat all day long
deprived of the basics. Perhaps, if you check
ventilation, and the actual temperature, she
could be in the camper during the day also.
If you are thinking about tranquilizers, they
are quite unreliable. You would have to talk
to your vet, but many don't suggest them.
