Don't know if you remember the original request for prayers for Moses,
the 16 / 17 year old male cat of my ex, posted back on November 11
(I believe) but it is below.  He went to 5 pounds, would not eat, lost
hair, bladder infection, etc.

Well he is on his third medication for the bladder infection he still
has and I pray THIS ONE works!!  In about 4 weeks he has only gained
about 1 pound and if he is taken off Metoclopramide he throws up all
he eats.  With it he is eating at least 2 cans of food (5.5 ounce
size) and keeping it down.  All the tests sent to the University of
Michigan came out within limits.  The yellowish color in his mouth has
cleared up, his eyes look clearer and sharper and he is more friendly
and outgoing.  He just does not put any weight on!!  Miss Tina, his
vet, said about the only thing left to do is a liver biopsy (SP?) and
a sonogram (SP?).

Miss Tina said that if Moses was her cat (Which she has 7 of) she
would not put him through it at his age because things could go wrong
with the liver biopsy and for the sonogram Moses would have to be sent
out for it.  She said she would continue to try to get rid of the
bladder infection and keep him on Metoclopramide to help him keep his
food down and as long as his quality of life does not go down just let
him go but if his quality of life starts to go then it would be time
to let him go to the Rainbow Bridge (Just typing this brings tears).

Sorry this is so long but --.  Was just wondering what some of your
opinions are and what you would do if Moses was yours.

TIA

I think I agree with Miss Tina on this one but ultimately only you
can know.  As Mags got older and started having health problems
a lot of my "friends" said it was time to let her go.  I knew better...
but I also knew that I it would be difficult for me to recognize when
it was time so I relied heavily on my vet.  Whatever procedure,
medication etc he recommended we tried.  When I started freaking
because she had a bad couple of days he would tell me it's ok.  She's
old, but she's still ok.  When he said he didn't want to remove a
cyst because of her health..I said ok..and when he said it's time..I cried
and said OK.  Trust yourself, trust your vet (assuming you have a
trustworthy
one and you do seem to).  I had a liver biopsy.  They suck and I knew
why I was having it.  I would be hard pressed to put a failing 17 year
old cat through that.  Give Moses lots of love, his medicine..and enjoy
all the time you two have left together.

You have to make the hard decision whether you think Moses has any qualitify of
life left to him. Can he live without pain? Also, I know vets here have the
sonogram done in the office. Maybe you should get a second opinion..if
necessary.  Good luck.

It seems very sensible what your vet suggests.
A little consolation: At least he will be able to die naturally after a
long and fulfilled life - not involved in a nasty accident.
Just enjoy him and spoil him as long as you can.
All the best.
