My cat Meiko is awesome. He's got a great personality and very affectionate.
I'm hoping someone here might be able to help me with my question.. Anyway,
when he "kneads" on me and if I try to pet him, he seems to get upset and
meows, is this common?? The situation confuses me a little. Anyway, he's the
greatest cat and I'm lucky to have such a wonderful lil' guy.

Sasha does this too.  I don't know the reason but I do know that
"knead" mode doesn't mean she is looking for attention.  So I just
ignore her until she stops and settles into that spot.  Perhaps
petting her while she is busy kneading is distracting and the meow
is just a "wait".

That's a really good point, I never thought about that I usually wait until he
stops as well. Thanks for the help. I'm not really worried just kinda curious.

Kneading is very pleasant to the cat, perhaps more so than being
petted.  I had one neutered male that masterbated that way - kneading
was clearly sexually stimulating to him.  He *did not* like being
interrupted.  None of my current cats show overt sexual responses, but
they still dislike being interrupted while kneading.

Huh?  No offense, but I am confused.   I hope this isn't grossing anyone
out, but I just don't understand how a cat kneading his paws on a human
counts as masturbation.  A cat can't knead himself, can he?

Well, he started kneading, then got an erection followed by humping
with his rear end while kneading frantically with his front ...
followed by a wet spot on my pants.  Then he would get up and walk
away.  I eventually learned to put a towel under him when he was in my
lap.

Wow -- that's gross, and surprising.  I thought you said he was fixed.

I have a cat that does this too.  Others have mentioned sexual-type
behavior in neutered male cats here online and offline, too.  Some
cats will hump arms.  Some stuffed animals (good diversion BTW).  One
of mine kneads on, and "humps" a blanket - same behavior Ted
described.  Another (now RB) used to do the same thing often.  All
neutered males.  Removing the reproductive parts doesn't make male
cats "she" cats, or "it" cats.  They are still a sexual, sensual,
however you want to describe it, animals.  Some people are really put
off by this but I say, let 'em do it if it makes 'em happy.  ;)  Just
not on me.  lol  One of my male cats seems to get arroused when
another cat is laying next to him, either the other male (castrated)
or my girl cat (spayed).  I've had to pull him off them a couple of
times; he had a neck grip on either one with his teeth and ready to
mount.

"Sensual" - yes, that certainly applies to cats, some cats, some
times, anyway.

I just conducted an experiment: Fleagor is lying on the mud room
window shelf about as relaxed as a cat can get - when I came up to
him, he rolled over to indicate he wanted a belly rub ... "sensual" is
clearly an appropriate word to describe him during the follow minute
or so (I quit before he overloaded and went into attack mode).

He was - I paid the vet bill.  And my reaction the first time it
happened was "that's gross and surprising".
