National Pet Register - 29 Nov 2003 21:38 GMT
We are thankful for the pets in our life.  Let's show our thanks by registering them with the National Pet Register.

There are numerous ways in which to "tag" your pet, including the microchip, tattoos, city registration ID tags, etc.  However, none of these are of any use in helping other people who may find your pet to find you if your pet's collar is missing, or if the animal shelter or vet is closed.  Not to mention that mistakes can be made, even if your pet is picked up by your local animal shelter.

The National Pet Register lets you and your friends in your community to help each other whenever a pet is lost, or found - reuniting pets with their families.

Become a part of the "Missing Pet Alert" network - registration is FREE and you earn rewards for your good behavior.  Register each of your pets before they become lost - and help insure a prompt, safe return of your family member.

Visit www.NationalPetRegister.com

Happy Thanksgiving Weekend.

If registration is free then why does your web site FAQ show  "A one-time
registration fee of $9.95 applies for each pet that you register"?
Oh I see, it's people that are free and $9.95  for the actual pets.

In my opinion this is just another scam.

There is a place on that website to type in your ZIP Code and it is suppose
to tell you of missing pets in your area.  I set the range to 25 miles and
its response was ..."No missing pets in your area".   hummm!  I find it
quite odd of no missing pets in or about Seattle, Washington????

Fred might agree with me that it is not just a SCAM but an INACCURATE SCAM.

The only pets it will "find" are the ones that were registered with
this service.  So it could be accurate.  There are no "registered"
missing pets within 25 miles.  It doesn't claim to scan lost and found
ads.  Again...it's not really a free service and technically may be SPAM
but even this pay service may be useful to some of the posters here and
it's nice to know there is one more place you look when fluffy goes missing.
I think you guys are a little harsh :-)  Must be all the buy buy buy
messages
at X-mas that has you on edge.

Ok Pollyanna
We're not being harsh, we're just not as naive.

How do you figure I am naive?  If you pay 10 bucks you can list
your cat as lost and hope whomever finds him looks at the registry.
It's highly unlikely but it doesn't claim to find your pet for you..it
simply claims to register them.  This is a capitalist country and for
every situation there are going to be 20 people trying to make a
buck off it.  As long as it is remotely cat related they aren't out of
bounds posting their money making scheme here.  That's realism....
get used to it (or move to a non capitalist country and avoid the internet)

Troll.  You don't respond to anything I wrote but instead utter
some lame attempt at a put down.  I countered with logic...you
countered  with...well basically with nothing.  I guess you figger that
if you holler someone is ingnorant than there is less chance of your own
ingnorance being noticed eh?

AG, This is to let you know that Fred & I have come up with an idea start a
better registry.  It will not only be for cats but for ANYTHING you want to
register.  We will only charge 8 bucks and you can list any item you have
lost.  Now please understand that it is unlikely the item will be found but
at least you can be at comfort to know we will at least have a record
available.  All we ask is that you send 4 bucks to each of us.  This should
also put your mind at ease by knowing you saved 2 bucks in the process.  Yes
indeed, as you said, this is a non capitalist country and that reminder is
what put us in motion.   God Bless the USA and all those trying to make a
fast and easy buck.

P.S.  Please do not forget your reply ...can hardly wait.

I'm prepared to do it for 5$ only *and* include the whole western world in
the list...

Several companies - in the NY-NJ area - that provide microchips and follow-up
"registery" are invaluable!  Many - if not all - strays brought into shelters
are routinely scanned. Once scanned, the shelter/vet facility who scanned the
animal makes calls to secure information on who is registered as the
"caretaker/owner".  What's so bad about this?
Rich - 01 Dec 2003 15:32 GMT
Invaluable only if a vet clinic or shelter checks with those "Several
Companies" ...and they WILL NOT take the time to go to each and every one.
The National Pet Register IS NOT a non profit organization and is among
those 'several companies' you mention.  The most popular and the one most
always checked by a vet clinic or shelter is the "AKC Companion Animal
Recovery or sometimes called the AKC-CAR.  Check out their website at:
http://www.akccar.org .

What's so good about this?  ...you have a high chance of being reunited with
your lost pet if it is registered with AKC-CAR ...doubtful with the others.
I believe many of the others are faster to take a buck than to make a
recovery.

Good luck.  Seriously..go for it.  I of course wouldn't sign up with the
you any more than I would sign up with the pet registry but I am not about
to flame someone for coming up with an idea and then trying to sell it.

I think you missed the point.  I don't have to agree with you or your ideas
but I do defend your right to have one...and to sell it on the internet.
