Introduce 2 cats to new house

Hi everyone,

We just moved two male cats from our apartment into a new split
level home.  They are not neutered.  They were completely fine in the
apartment, but now in the house, they stay on separate levels and make
noises at each other when they are on the same level.  Is this
territorial behavior?  Is there anything we can do to make the
situation better?  Granted, it has only been two days.  They are
brothers, both a little over a year old.  Thanks.

Maybe because it's new territory and they're both trying to establish.
Seriously, I'd get them neutered. They're plenty old enough, and the next step
is territorial spraying behavior, and you sure don't want that. P--UUUU.

Neutering is not the answer to everything.  There are several other
alternatives available that are more humane.

There is nothing MORE humane then nutering/spaying your pets.

1.Unnutered males fight more therefore getting much bigger access to various
diseases adn scratch and bite infections, lots of them potentially letal.
2.They stray more in search for a "woman" and can dissapear for weeks on end
terrifying you! My friends Porridge disapeared for 6 weeks! Then dicided to
come back!
3.Next, they will spray what they consider their territory, this including
your house, your furniture, your kitchen units etc. Besides smelling like
.....well - urin, it is highly unhyginic!
4.Finally, there is enough unwanted animals needing a good home already in
shleters and streets all over the world, you do NOT want to let him produce
more of unwanted pets they can end up in most horrific ways.

So nutering your pets is of the UPMOST importance, and there isn't a single
reason you can give me for keeping your boys unnutered, apart from YOUR male
ego being hurt - not cat's. Cat will be much calmer and happier, and not
having a sh#g will not bother them a bit!

Everything. The ONLY reason you have for suggesting to her NOT to nueter the
cats is beucase YOU are uncomfortable with the idea as any men feels
uncomfortable with the idea with any operation being done on their genitals.
The comment is NOT a chovinistic or rude, it is simply a truth, weather you
like it or not. And if you feel my comment is not correct, perhaps you can
give me your pros of a cat staying unnuetered. And you can;t: becuase there
aren't any. Nutered cats are not bothered with not getting any. Only humans
are.

>Stay on topic or I will
> be required to report you.

He he he, now you sound like Bob Brenchley who also threatened people when
he didn;t like their response, no matter how polite, truthful and valid it
was. You know what happened to him, people killfiled him so they don;t have
to read his nasty comments, threats and rudeness. And empty advice. Nobody
took his opinions and advice into consideration and most people hate him.
So I suggest you don;t go down that road, for your own benefit, unless of
course you want people to hate you as much as they hate Bob. Don't; believe
me. Search the posts and find out for yourself.

As for not being " on topic" ...HELLO!?!?!?! I REPLIED to your comment, so
if you were NOT on topic, nor was I ! Therefore if you gonna report me for
NOT being on topic, you must report yourself first! He he. But seriously, I
do despair sometimes!

And what exactly would you report me for: " Dear sir, I didn;t like what she
said about me, I didn;t like her constructive criticism of my point, and her
VALID examples of why she contradicted my opinion, and I didn;t like it, I
didn;t like it, I didn;t like it,  so you should do something about it". I
can just imagine them falling off their chairs laughing at your e-mail.

But if we gonna talk reports, I have one word for you: crossposting!  Rings
a bell? So don;t threaten me, or anyone else - ever. You don;t know who are
you dealing with. I am the nicest person alive, I adore cats and helping
people, but let that not fool you into thinking that I will put up with cr#p
like your unreasonable threats. If you have a valid contradicting point to
do with cats - make it. I can take constructive criticism and admit my fault
because I am a bigger person. Why not try it yourself. We are here to talk
cats, and help others with cats, which is what I have been doing for a long
time. YOU are the one who went off topic the second you made a threat. So
shell I report you then?

And like your mother told you: stop and think before you act.

Yeah Bob sure had his famous moments! From spellcheking, to reporting for
top-posting, to lying through his teeth, to downright abusing my dead
kitten! Go figure!  I have met some nasty people in my time, but Bobbit is
definitly not going to Heaven! :)

LOL ! Actually, as a woman, I do happen to know a little bit about both he
he. But shame you don;t know anything about anything troll, and you crave
attention so desperately you need to get it like this, and not using your
brain or other parts of your body.

May I suggest some local activities, or have you been shunned from all of
them already , and now your only friend is internet :) How sad. You poor,
poor lonely thing. Bless.

This brings up a question I have had for some time.

Many human males undergo a vasectomy when they no longer wish to get a
woman pregnant. I haven't done this myself, but I understand it
doesn't affect the sex drive or ability to perform, just the ability
to impregnate a woman.

So could a vasectomy be performed on a male cat instead of the usual
removal of the testicles? Would this not eliminate the cat
overpopulation just as effectively, and in a more humane manner that
would be more acceptable, especially to men who own cats?

Hmm, that is an interesting question. I am not a vet so obviously can;t
give any medical answer but would love to know if this is medically
possible. Any vets/biologists?

However, thinking logically, even if it was possible, would there be a point
really? What I mean is : If a male cat still has the ability and wants for
the intercourse, but female doesn;t (due to her hysterectomy op - spaying),
the poor boy would probably end up sexually frustrated and he would be worse
off.

Also if he still had a want, he would continue straying and staying away
from home for weeks searching for a lady, and deep down, we, as their human
pets, cannot handle not knowing where they are for so long. We'd go spare!

So really, unless this boy had an intact female, he couldn;t do his
business. And having an intact female poses a further risk of bringing more
cats into this world, if not by this "vasected" chap, then possibly by
another intact one. I remember when my Tiara was on her first heat at 5
months old, although she was an indoor cat, I had 2 boys hanging around the
window for a week fancying their chances while she set on the window seal
seducing them. I suppose a moment of carelessness on my part could;ve caused
her to run out and get well accointed with one of them, so I would never
risk having an intact female. Some people also complain about the
distinctive "calls" females make during the heat, more often discribed as
"too much noise" closely followed by human inability to sleep :) . Finally,
being on heat I suppose is just as sexually frustrating. So unless someone
finds out the way to keep the sex drive in females while taking away their
ability to stay pregnant, poor boyz are better off fully nuetered :)

Just my 2 cents.

You should get a vasectomy and a lobotomy, Moron.

Moving is a big stress for cats, so they have reverted to natural instincts.
It's a new territory , and as they are both boys, they will insinctively
create their own territories, especially if old place was all on one level.

This is probably not good idea to allow in a long run(creating territories),
as they might start threating each other as enemies and even start fighting.
If they are unnuetered , defintily nueter them as asap, but even that may
not reduce the territorialisam. Perhaps reduce the rooms they can go into
for a few weeks. Make them stay in the same "teritory" and slowly enlarge
it. And do it asap, before they start seeing each other in a negative way.
