For the past several months I've been adopting Old George, a stray in
the neighborhood. When I first started he was almost feral. Slowly,
but surely, he has come to trust me. As of a few days ago he was
spending the night at my house, but walking down the block to the home
of a lady who was giving him handouts when I first ran into him. He
was still thinking of that as "home." Well, the weather took a sudden
cold snap and it's really cold out. For the past 48 hours he has
stayed inside with me. I guess the trip down the block in the cold is
too much for his old bones.
I have posted here before about problems with litterbox training.
Having lived outdoors all his life he didn't have any idea of what a
litterbox is for. About a week ago I did find a wet spot in one of the
litterboxes I have set up, but afterwards he went back to going on the
floor. Well, he is slowly becoming a good little boy. He now poops and
pees in the litterbox about half the time. And the rest of the time he
does it within a couple feet of the litterbox. It's like he now has it
in his furry little head that there is an approved "area" for
elimination. He hasn't gotten to the idea of the box alone being the
area, but we're making progress. And at least now that we're making
some headway, I can cope with it.
Oh, and of the three litterboxes I have made up, the one he used least
is the one with Cat Attract. In fact, I think he avoided it. I guess
it takes all kinds of cats. :)

Get a baby bath tub - use it for a litter pan...
The big cat needs more room than a normal litter pan has...
