My baby Rascal whom is about 20 weeks old is going in for spaying now
that she has reached 4 pounds and I would like to request your prayers
and purrs for her.

One more baby to go after this one when she gets big enough.

All our best to Rascal.  My "baby" George (7 years old, 22 lbs.) is at the
vet right now having a mass biopsied :(  I'd appreciate everyone's best
wishes for him, as I still feel like you all probably saved h0p's life.

Thanks for all the prayers and purrs.  Poor Sam will be lost without
Rascal being here tonight.  That is his bud.

Again prayers and purrs to George also.

Hey Sherry, thanks.  I haven't been on much because I was ill for a while,
it's crazy busy at work, and my home computer is in pieces!  About four
weeks ago I found a small lump on George's side behind his left elbow.
Both of the vets who have seen his suspect it's benign, but I certainly
can't chance it!  you know the kind of luck my poor cats have had with
their health.  George went in and had the lump removed yesterday, and it's
being sent to the lab.  Poor guy has a huge shaved spot on his side, and
an incision three times the size of the original warty thing!  We sure
hope for the best.

Oh, dear. Double purrs going out to George. Try not to fret too much, Dee. Last
year Yoda had a tumor on the side of his neck that I worried myself sick over
and it turned out to be benign. I think a great many of those things are.

Thanks Sherry.  With h0p's illness (they just put him on yet another
medication - that's six twice a day), and now the addition of Ceili with
her heart problem, another seriously ill cat might send me over the edge!
George is doing well today and not messing with his stitches at all, so
...so far so good.  I'm glad your little Yoda is ok!

Did people leave the group because of all the spamming?  I'm missing posts
from a quite a few people I'd come to look forward to hearing from!

Purrs for little Rascal. I'm coming in late on this thread, so I guess the
surgery is probably already done, but do give us an update. I always really
hated to take them in for spays and was glad when it wass over with.

The vet just called and Rascal came through her surgery just fine and
can be taken home now.

Her buddy Sam will be happy!!  Last evening he wandered the house
"crying" like he was looking for his playmate.  At least he will be
able to see her (Rascal) tonight even though I will probably keep her
seperate tonight so she will not be running and jumping.

I will be glad to have all my babies home again also.

Rascal is doing good the morning after her surgery.  She is on pain
meds and wants to just lay around where see can see me and sleep.

When I brought her home I let her buddy Sam and her spend some
supervised time together before I put Rascal in my office room for the
night and Sam was sleeping outside the door when I went to bed.

SUNDAY MORNING UDATE

When  I bought Rascal home Thursday evening after being spayed she
stayed under the sofa and I figured she was tired and wanted to be
left alone.  Friday morning when I went to get her for her pain meds
she tryed to avoid me by moving.  When I was able to reach her she ran
into the bedroom and hid.  When I did get get she was real frightened
and tryed to hide her head and get away from me.  I finally put her in
a room Friday where I could get her easy when I had to give her her
pain meds.  She was worse then when I first took her in as a stray.

Friday and Saturday I had to help my daughter move so I was gone all
day and did not get to spend any time with her and Saturday evening
she was still afraid of everything.  Saturday evening I threw a
blanket and pillow on the floor so I was laying next to her bed and
talked to her most of the night and left my hand lay in her bed.
Finally she started licking my hand and purring then a while later she
moved to her open bed and a little later still she went to her food
dish and ate.  About 5:30 her buddy Sam and Margie wanted in so I let
them but she went into hiding again in her closed-in bed.  I finally
went to bed and left Rascal alone about 6:30.

This Sunday morning about 8:00 I went in and talked to her and she
finally came out and rubbed my leg and wanted to get on the desk.  BUT
as soon as I let the other babies in she hid.  I have to spend today
finishing helping my daughter move and feel guilty keeping Rascal shut
up but I do not want to have to chase her to give her her pain meds
tonight (Last time).  Whenever I leave her alone in the spare room it
takes awhile to re-warm up to me but I do not want to give her the run
of the house until tonigh when I will be here to keep and eye on her.

First I took her to the vets and left her in a strange place then I
bring her home and lock her in a room by herself even though it is for
her own good.  Maybe she thinks she is being punished or abandoned or
something but my daughter's moving came up at the last minute and I
have no choice.

Was wondering if anyone else ever had an experience like this and if
so what the did?  Also Monday AM I am calling the vet to see if
anything happened there that might make her like this.  I have had
other "fixed" there and they were never like this!!

Thanks for any help and / or suggestions.

Look, I think you've just got a very sensitive (and therefore intelligent!)
cat. Be happy about that and give her time and more important: love.
Once the painkillers thing is over she'll settle.

MONDAY

Rascal has developed an infection after being spayed and it started
draining so I called vet Monday morning and took him in.  They are
going to keep him at least overnight and "debride" (Their words) the
abscess.  In laymen's terms the are going to open it up, drain it,
remove the infected area, put a drain tube in and sew it up.  He may
be home tomorrow.  He will be on antibiotics and have to go back in a
week.

Poor Rascal.  My furkids are sending healing purrs for Rascal.  Did
your vet tell you not to use regular kitty litter for Rascal after his
surgery?  When Tiger was neutered the vet said to use shredded paper
for him for a week since little boy kitties squat really low and can
get kitty litter in the incision.

No she did not say anything about paper litter and they have neutered
/ spayed 3 of my babies now.  I will bring this up when I get Rascal.
Thanks much for info.

My vet's office staff save all of the computer paper tear-offs for
just this purpose.  They gave me a large garbage bag of paper for the
litter box when I picked up Tiger and Tigger.

This is not good. I'm very sorry to hear that. I only realised now that
Rascal is a boy. That operation should be a routine really and not cause any
complications. Our Tom got two little cuts only of about 1/2 cm size each.
I honestly do hope that he'll be well and back to his own self soon.

WEDNESDAY

Well Rascal is home again after her surgery for the infection.  She
has an incision just about the full length of her belly (At least 2
1/2 inches long - 6 centimeters) with a drain tube on each end which
are draining.  She is on antibiotics and pain meds.  She is eating and
drinking (Not as much as usual - understandable) and uses the litter
box for both duties.  I try to spend as much time as posible with her
while she is kept in her "isolation" room and let the other babies in
to visit as long as they do not try to play with her and just kind of
hang out with her so she does not feel all alone here.

She goes in this Saturday to have the drain tubes removed if ready
then in 2 weeks for the removal of the stitches.

I'm so sorry she had to go through all this.  Poor baby.  It's not
common but it does happen no matter how long you wait.  It's
hard when you have to do mean things to your pet like surgery,
isolation, nasty medicine etc.  When I went through this with Maggie
I told her everything that was going on and why.  I tried to convey it
both verbally and mentally.  I don't know if she understood but
attempting to explain it helped me a little <g>.   Good luck and I will
keep Rascal in my thoughts.

THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 13

Little late with this update but Rascal had the drain tube removed (It
was one tube that ran the whole length of incision under the skin) and
is scheduled to have the stitches removed the 18th yet.  She has been
in isolation (except for a couple hours a day that I let the other
kittens visit her) since being spayed October 30.  The vet said I
could let her out as long as I was here to keep an eye on them.  Well
needles to say they are going nuts since I let Rascal "FREE",
especially Sam and Rascal who are really buds.  At first it was like
she was afraid to come out and kept running back in her isolation room
when she seen me but now is at ease and enjoying herself.

Rascal just got done at the vet. The stitches were removed (What
Rascal did not take out), the infection is all cleared up, was brought
up to date on shot and dewormed.

Now unless she gets sick or whatever she will not need to go until her
yearly checkup.
