A while back someone posted a question asking if anyone knew what the
little "pocket" on cats ear (Double layer at bottom edge of ear with
space between) was for. I asked vet when I took on of my nanies and
she said as far as she knew it served no special purpose.

Appendix in humans etc etc. It could have been for many things in the
dima nd distant past of evolution and it's now just hanging around
having marked it's time.....

If I'm thinking of the same thing you are...
In some dogs, this is the part of the ear where it's folded over.
The area seems to allow for the ear to fold better at that spot.
Now, what I don't know is if the ear folds there because of the
spot, or if the spot is there for the ear to fold... in other words,
did the spot evolve in pre-dogs to better allow for the ear to
fold, or is the spot just there, and because the ear needs to
fold somewhere, it just happens to fold there because it works
best.
Assuming it came about as an evolutionary item to better allow
folding, it seems to reason that perhaps cat ancestors had folding
ears...???
