Hello,
Our female cat  has ,I  believe to be roundworms.
We did give her some meds we bought at the local pet store .
Does anyone know how long it takes to clear up??. I am finding them on the
couch and the chair where she sleeps.
Some are alive and some are dead.

Someone told me that you don't have to take her to the vet, the medication
should work.
I am getting grossed out by the worms!!!!!
Help!!!!

Are you sure they are roundworms? It sounds more like tapeworms, since you're
finding them in your chairs. Tapeworms segments look somewhat like a grain of
rice. Don't use over the counter remedies, just take the cat to the vet and get
rid of them. The vet can identify which parasite the cat has, and give her
something effective. Don't gross out too bad. Tapeworms are gross, but fairly
benign and easy  to get rid of. They get them from ingesting fleas.

I agree with Sherry.  This sounds more like tapeworms.  Have you seen any
little rice-like segments in her fur at the read end (very difficult to see
if your cat has light-colored fur)?

It is important for you to take your cat to a vet for a proper diagnosis.
Treatment is simple, but you want to get the correct treatment.  Be sure to
take a fecal sample.  It should be as fresh as possible (not dried out by
litter).

Additional information:  If you have a veterinarian that you see regularly,
he or she may be willing to simply accept the fecal sample and may not need
to see the cat.  I suggest that you call ahead first and check.  On the
other hand, you should get a physical exam if it has been some time since
the last veterinary examination.  It is important to take care of this as
soon as possible.  If you are seeing that many worms (which I would guess to
be tapeworms), then they may have been present for some time.

Roundworm outside of the host will look like a rubberband.  Coiled up
off-whitish like angelhair spaghetti.  I have a cat who was infested
and she vomited up roundworms (about 3 of them) onto the carpet.  OTC
medication is not good for treating worms - you need one that is
specific for the type of worm (from the vet) and some stronger wormer
meds (Drontal, Dronsit) will treat many different kinds but may be too
harsh if they can specifically treat.  My vet said to bring in a fecal
sample that is 12 hours or less old to be tested.
