My Sam loves to lay in the litter box and sometimes plays in it
(Chases his tail around) and needless to say litter flies all over.
He must think it is a play area.  He also likes to get in while his
buddy Rascal uses it and bugs her while she is doing her job.  Once he
stuck his nose where it should not have went and got peeed on!!  And
on top of that when he uses it he sets right in the litter instead of
holding himself up like other cats do.  Then he hates water (Bath
type) and needless to say spending all this time in the litter box he
does not smell all that great.  He has done this since I got him.  He
is the only one that does this.  They do not like the closed in type
of boxes byt the way.

I found Sam in the middle of the road on the way home one night and he
was deathly sick with a respiratory infection, had an eye infection
and a large hernia on his stomach.  I thought we were going to loose
him but we (Me and his vet) pulled him through.  He was like 9 weeks
old and weighed 3 pounds at the time.  He is now about 18 weeks and
weighs about 7 / 8 ponds and has been neutered.

Any suggestions as to how to teach him that the litter box is not a
play area??  I use "Worlds Best Kitty Litter" and it gets cleaned
everytime they use it and I also have 2 boxes for 4 cats / kittens.

He sounds like a cutie and I think he'll grow out of it.  :)

Delurking for a moment :)

One of our kittens (Luna) used to do the same thing.....rolling around in
the litter, bugging the other cats while they did their business, etc.  She
was about 8 weeks old when we got her, and this behavior went on for a few
months before she finally grew out of it.  Hopefully you're kit will grow
out of it.  Do they have enough toys to play with?  I found that Luna
absolutely adores little mouse toys that are made out of rabbit fur.  Maybe
if you get some of them or something with catnip inside it will distract
your kitten.

Back to lurking I go.

Welcome out of lurkdom, Nikki! Don't go back! We'd love to hear more about
Luna.

Thanks for reply.

They have all kinds of toys and furry mice.  They have just about
every type and color there is but prefer the white furry mice the
best.  Plus they have rings off of milk jugs, refillable catnipt toys,
different size and color balls, scratch pads and pole, cats houses and
perches, etc etc etc.  This place is going to the cats!!  :-)  But I
love them dearly.
