Tony 5 - 24 Oct 2003 15:52 GMT Hi all,
This is my first time posting to this newsgroup. So I thank anyone in advance for their advice.
As I said in the subject line....my kitty urinated on the carpet in my room and I cleaned the area with my rug cleaner, but does anyone have any suggestions for REALLY getting the smell out without going and buying expensive carpet cleaning solutions or stuff from the pet store?
Again, thanks for any hep you can offer.

Iso - 24 Oct 2003 16:43 GMT Vodka... It does the trick most of the time. It also keeps the cat from urinating in the same spot again.

LOL But the OP wanted an answer: Vinegar! Use soap first and spray a bit of white vinegar over it after you've cleaned the spot.

Iso - 25 Oct 2003 17:00 GMT Sherry,
Don't you think that it's a bit dismissive to question my "caring" before you understand the reasons for my using vodka on cat urine? I don't mind you questioning my logic regarding "WHY" I used the vodka on the urine, but you could have at least asked civilly, instead of instantly presuming that I don't care for my animals, or my home. Who pissed on your back and told you its raining? If you knew just a smidgen about animal physiology and chemistry, you wouldn't have jumped to conclusions.
Agua Girl - 25 Oct 2003 18:21 GMT wow.....it was a joke. You know...vodka, alcohol...drunkenness... drink the vodka and you don't care if the cat pisses. I hope it's just the recent troll invasion that has you seeing attacks where there are none. I don't know Sherry personally but I have never seen her be cruel or dismissive in this group. I thought it was pretty funny myself. Personally I would never waste good alcohol that way but I don't have a problem with anyone else pouring it on their carpet.

My post wasn't directed towards you in an way. Nonetheless, if Sherry meant for her post to be taken as a joke, I do apologize for my posting.

I knew it wasn't "directed" at me..but I figured I would respond anyway since I could tell it was a joke. I think if everyone was standing around face to face in a group and someone said " anyone know what to do about cat urine on carpet", and you said " Try vodka, completely takes away the smell" , and someone else said " are you sure, maybe after the vodka (implying you drank it rather than poured it on the carpet) you just don't care about the smell (implying you were tipsy)" you would laugh. It's this forum that makes it hard to tell intent. I try and assume the best unless the intent is absolutely clear. Could be I just have a big ego that makes me assume everyone loves. :-)

Lighten up, for God's sakes. Apparently the smiley face didn't tip you off it was a joke. BTW, and this *isn't* a joke, pouring vodka on the carpet is a waste of good vodka. Odor is caused by bacteria, and to eliminate odor, you've got to kill the bacteria. This is most effectively accomplished by the use of enzyme cleaners, available at any pet supply, with less risk of taking damaging the color/fiber of the carpet with alcohol.

Iso - 26 Oct 2003 07:18 GMT Hey, Sherry, where was the "smiley: in you post?
Sherry - 26 Oct 2003 17:22 GMT >Hey, Sherry, where was the "smiley: in you post? At the end of the post, following the word "rug." BTW, you are either new to usenet, or have very thin skin and no sense of humor, or all three. FYI, since all we are to each other is words on a screen, with no facial expressions or tone of voice to accompany words, a smiley face, [ :-) ] will usually accompany a joke, or remark made in jest. . I would suggest that you note this before going off half-cocked and verbally attacking someone else for making a tongue-in-cheek remark that was clearly indicated as such by an emoticon as you did me.

Iso - 26 Oct 2003 21:16 GMT I stand corrected. However, I assure you that I am none of the three. Every day I go through the newsgroups, I see someone engaged in a conflict regarding what he or she personally deem cruel. It has happened to me more than once. I apologize for the short temperament.

Every >day I go through the newsgroups, I see someone engaged in a conflict >regarding what he or she personally deem cruel. It has happened to me more >than once. I apologize for the short temperament. Apology accepted. Usenet readers have the definite handicap of being unable to read faces, expressions, and hearing tone. It has bred misunderstandings more than once I'm sure.

it;s usually located near the rental carpet cleaning machines... but you need not rent a carpet cleaner...
just a few squirts from the bottle will have the odor removed within 24 hours or so!
Wandalala - 27 Oct 2003 21:46 GMT "Nature's Miracle" You can buy it at any pet supply.
