I say "if" because when I do get a cat ("Feline-American") it will be
from a shelter and hence, most likely, just an ordinary tabby "house
cat."
That being said, however, and I having just returned from the Cat
Fancier's Association's show on one of the upper-level hallways at
Madison Square Garden in N.Y.C., here is my decision if I was going to
get a "purebred" Feline-American: Not the magnificent Maine Coon (and
the "best in show" M.C. received the loudest applause), but instead the
similar-looking Norwegian Forest Cat. What a beauty, what a treasure!
(Tho' definitely not an indoor cat, I understand.)
I was also very impressed with the Birmans I saw (they're said to have a
wonderfully friendly temperament) as well as a Tonkinese kitten as well
as the beautiful spotted Ocicats in attendance.
None of those big-eared cats, nor none of those tailless cats, nor none
of those Persians with the pushed-in faces, for me. (That cat show,
however, needed a bigger space, a much bigger space. And the line to get
in was nearly around the block!)
So if I was going to get a specific breed, Thumbs Up for the Norwegian
Forest Cat!

If I were to adopt a purebred, it would be a MC. I love the
temprament and personality of any that I've had the pleasure to meet.
I just may do that someday. There have been a few MC purebreds coming
through our local SPCA (a pair of kittens, and a 3 year old who stood
to my knee in height who I wanted so much to adopt when he was
returned after being adopted last year. I can't because of my FeLV+
cat who I hope will live a good long time)
