Can someone tell me why a neutered well behaved male cat with access to the
outside all day, and a clean litter box would all of a sudden defecate on a bed
he sleeps on? He usually naps on my mother's bed during the day, and twice now
he has pooped right in the middle of it. How do we stop this behavior? Nothing
has changed in the household. There is another female cat in the house that
shares the litterbox, but it's always clean, and no problems before, and the
cat was just outside a short time before he did it.

It looks like something is upsetting him badly.
How long have you had the cat?
Did you change the washing powder?

For two cats you should have three litter boxes. Try adding two more
and see if the problem stops.

My wife got out of bed one night. I felt a wet spot on her side of the bed
and thought that she was having incontinence problems. She was insulted
and said the cat did it which didn't seem possible to me since she had
only been out of bed for a minute or so and I was in the bed. Then another
of our cats jumped on the bed and started to urinate in the same spot. I
must have looked kind of ridiculous trying to catch the urine in my hands
especially to my wife. The first cat started to poop in the bed every couple
of weeks after that and never stopped. We got a plastic bed cover and
until she disappeared on Halloween two years ago the problem continued.
I wasn't responsible but I do not miss her- the cat. My wife is still with
me.
I'm sure this helped, not.
