I read the post titled "TO ALL CAT LOVERS" which went on about how cheap
food nearly killed a poor 4 year old...
Anyway, I am in the UK and my three cats diet consist of:
Sheba wet food
Gocat dry biscuits
Whatever they steal from my Dinner Plate (well Tango at least - little sh.t,
tee hee!)
This is by no means "vet food", and its not the "cheapest" in the store - it
is in fact very popular.
Am I doing potential damage here? I would be 200% DEVASTATED to loose one
of my little fluffballs, I would crack up. If you want a similar more
famous brand, I suppose we can discuss Whiskas - from the makers of Pedigree
Chum.
What I dont get - if this food is bad for cats, why is it so bloody popular
and why is there not more widespread reporting of issues?
Regards,
Gary.

That was my post. My cat is now doing great after surgery and a $1465.00 vet
bill. He is now on Royal canine wet food, is peeing on his own and after I
am done with the wet food which by the way he hates, will go back to the vet
for advice. A bag of dry food at the vet costs avout $20.00 Canadian, they
eat less as it is more nourishing.

Oh yes and be careful with IAMS. Already had liver problem with my cat
cause apparently the quality of the food (probably too much publicity) has
been questioned.

When my cat was eating Iams (a long time ago) she had the most horrendous
gas! And her poo smelled soooooooo incedibly bad. *gag* We switched food and
it went away..

My cats don't like W., and the neighbour's cat got fat on it.
P. gives my dog diarrhoea.

Guess the great advertising? In German it goes: "if it were for the cats
they would buy W."

If your cat is in good health, then what you are doing is fine. Just keep
an eye on them, and bring them to a vet once a year for a check up. Some
cats can live forever on "junk" food, some can't.
