Points 1-5 are only to help people through the cartoon if they don't understand Italian.
Don't worry, my cats don't like coffee ;-)

Adreeanna - 26 Nov 2004 16:31 GMT Ohhh lighten up Amy...it's a joke, and a cute one at that. Yeesh woman. Thought owning cats taught a person how to laugh.

Then it makes no sense imagining you're cat either ...

Part of being a responsible cat owner is being aware of what is poison for your cat.

the floride in toothpaste is also cancerous to humans... but we use it, and we give floride pills to our babies for better teeth... The trick is how much... florite is hamful over.05 the toothpaste is .02 and pills are .03
Alot of these products we use are bad for us... but we love them... I think my cat could have chocolate milk once and a while... chocolate is not poision, even to a cat in moderation...
Sherry - 29 Nov 2004 14:44 GMT > I think my cat could have chocolate milk once and a while... chocolate is >not poision, even to a cat in moderation... I'd have to disagree with that one. A small amount of chocolate may not have any visible effects right away, but the jury's still out whether there repeated small doses have a cumulative effect on the liver.

Amy Gray - 29 Nov 2004 14:55 GMT >> I think my cat could have chocolate milk once and a while... chocolate is >>not poision, even to a cat in moderation... I've heard this before. For me the bottom line is this: I like having my cats around, i'll give them absoultely no chocolate or other poisons. Some do claim they can handle a small quantity. Personally I won't chance it on my cats so my cats get zero in the chocolate department.
Adreeanna - 02 Dec 2004 00:09 GMT nooo really? well then suport the cats and post a safety warning instead of ranting like a dysfunctional lunatic over a mere joke. Or would you rather people just think you stupid? I say again. Lighten up Adreeanna

I would hope that you wouldn't give your cat anti freeze if a cartoon character drank it.
Poison is poison no matter who drinks it.

Amy Gray - 27 Nov 2004 15:53 GMT >someone sure doesnt have a sense of humor :| No I don't when it comes to this stuff. I've come accross too many cats who have been poisoned by various stuff.
There are clowns who have thought it would humourous to give someone elses cat some anit freeze.
I don't find that humorous, I find it sick.
When it comes to cats I have no sense of humor, especially when it comes to something that causes the cat to die.
Jodie - 27 Nov 2004 22:25 GMT Amy, what happened? You usually act much more knowledgeable. I agree with you about your point about people being ignorant when it comes to these things...but...it would be far more effective to make an informed argument. If you had bothered to look at the link before jumping on your soapbox, you would have seen that no cats - or monkeys for that matter - were drinking any caffeine products. It was a cartoon for God's sake.
Do you get this upset when cartoon characters drop anvils on each others heads...or when Jerry does something to harm Tom? Lighten up. We are cat lovers here, and are intent is not to hurt our furry friends. It was just a joke.
Amy Gray - 28 Nov 2004 04:33 GMT >Amy, what happened? You usually act much more knowledgeable. It was a cartoon for God's sake. If I had a dime for every clown who thought it would be cute to give a cat chocolate/caffeine or other poisonous item in real life or on a TV show I'd be a bloody millionaire.
I've had too many cats die over the years to find any humor in something like this.
No matter how you slice it i don't find poisoning cats humorous in any capacity. Chalk it up to me having too many cats die over the years.
After all these years i've never really recovered from it.
>Do you get this upset when cartoon characters drop anvils on each others >heads...or when Jerry does something to harm Tom? Lighten up. We are cat >lovers here, and are intent is not to hurt our furry friends. It was just a >joke. Humans probably have the sense to not drop an anvil on a cat but that sense vanishes when it comes to giving them chocolate or other poisonous stuff.
Besides too many are not aware that stuff like Chocolate is poison for cats.
Jodie - 28 Nov 2004 05:27 GMT > I've had too many cats die over the years to find any humor in > something like this. [quoted text clipped - 4 lines] > > After all these years i've never really recovered from it. Amy, since you won't look at the cartoon, let me describe it for you. After you follow the instructions, the coffee machine opens up to show a giggling monkey peeing into the cups.
If you want to let people know the dangers of caffeine, antifreeze, chocolate, Tylenol, etc., etc., to cats, then start a thread and inform them. But it's silly to respond this way to a goofy cartoon that turned out to have nothing to do with cats. This is how ignorance and wars prevail - people jumping to conclusions without bothering to see the whole story before creating dissension. It's hard to take you seriously here when it's obvious to everyone you didn't even bother to look at the very thing you take such issue with.
FWIW, I totally one hundred percent agree with you that people are misinformed when it comes to what can endanger a cat. It's tragic when a beloved friend dies because an owner fed their cat chocolate or allowed access to antifreeze. It does come from ignorance, absolutely. But you really took away the effectiveness of your point when you jumped the gun on this particular topic.
Amy Gray - 28 Nov 2004 16:28 GMT >Amy, since you won't look at the cartoon, let me describe it for you. After >you follow the instructions, the coffee machine opens up to show a giggling >monkey peeing into the cups. I looked at the bloody cartoon. The memory of some of my cats dead on the floor overrides any humor that I would get from this cartoon.
None of the images of my dead cats ever really dissappear.
BTW, around here there have been neighbors who hated their neighbors cat so they deliberately placed anti freeze on the ground to poison the cat. Or the cat laps up some antifreeze that was spilled.
Adreeanna - 02 Dec 2004 00:06 GMT Amy if you cannot have a sense of humour then i suggest you go get some therapy. Take a joke for what it is...you are certainly not putting cat lovers in a good light right now. As for the coffee...my old siamese used to take a sip of my coffee just about every morning with me...never killed him. he died at 21 of olllld age. Lighten up you are acting foolish Adreeanna

Finally someone who understands it... that would be like smoking around a cat and it dies... the nicotine in the cigerette smoke can't kill the cat because its in too low of a dose... but if the cat smokes.. thats differnt...
Same with anything chocolate, whatever, Except anti-freese. Cats were ment to be indoor animals if the neighbor kills them with antifreese I blame the owner... cats were only ment to be native in the desert areas... not downtown...
Stanley Stempien - 28 Nov 2004 20:45 GMT my cat loves chocolate... he drinks cocolate milk all the time...
Jodie - 28 Nov 2004 23:34 GMT Stanley Stempien via CatKB.com <forum@CatKB.com> wrote in message news:915a627bdca14973ac9b5f7ccf59d19a@CatKB.com...
> my cat loves chocolate... he drinks cocolate milk all the time... Good lord, you know that's not right, don't you? For one thing, cow milk is not good for cats - they are almost all naturally lactose intolerant, and drinking it will give them gas and stomach problems for a few days afterwards. YOU might not notice, but they do. And milk has no nutritional value for a cat whatsoever. Get him lactose-free milk (if you must give him cow milk) or commercial cat milk as a treat for him.
And now chocolate: Chocolate is POISONOUS for your cat. It can cause excessive urination -leading to dehydration - muscle twitching (very uncomfortable), and the stimulants can affect the heart muscle and nervous system.
from http://www.pets.ca/pettips/tips-20.htm:
Although chocolates are equally bad for cats, cats are finicky and many cats won't eat it. If your cat does eat chocolate though, treat the situation as life threatening. Cats are small and it takes less chocolate to kill them.
I know you want to treat your cat - but find other things to give him. Giving him chocolate milk is akin to "treating" a child to a powdered donut covered in arsenic.
Dave - 29 Nov 2004 06:25 GMT >my cat loves chocolate... he drinks cocolate milk all the time... One of mine absolutely loves paper chocolate muffin wrappers. He'll eat the muffin if he can get to it, but what he really likes is the wrapper from the muffin.
We avoid letting him get to them, but between the girls and I, sometimes people leave something out.
