Hi all,

I know it's been discussed before, but I'm interested in hearing if
people with cat allergies can really live with Siberian cats.  Many of
the breeder web sites claim this is true.

I am 29 years of age and lived with a cat at home until I went to
college at 18 with no problems.  Now, when I return to my parents'
house, I get wheezy cat asthma.  My fiancee gets a different reaction;
she gets itchy and has watery eyes.  We would really like to have a
cat and the Siberian breed sounds promising, but we are skeptical
because we've been to friends' houses with various different types of
cats and had reactions.

So I'd like to hear from anyone who's had a similar experience -- is
the Siberian too good to be true?

Also, has anyone been OK with a Siberian as a kitten, but had a
reaction once the cat was older?

Thanks!

John

The link that you provided is from one of my web pages.  I am the
individual that discovered the hypo-allergenic quallities of the
Siberian Back in 1995.  Almost all of my cat sales are to allergic
parties.  Once in a blue moon someone actually buys a Siberian for
their great looks and personality.

Hypo-allergenic is not to be confused with non-allergic.  There are a
few people that will have problems with a Siberian as they are
allergic to the world around them!

The reason that when you return  to your parents and re develop your
allergic reaction to their cat,  is probably because while you were
living with a cat your body systemized itself to endure the company of
that cat.  One you were void of companionship of a feline your body
reverted to its original intolerance and vulnerability.

I have placed hundreds of cats in allergic homes with success.  If you
want further information may I suggest that you go here and sign up.
The listers are comprised of Siberian breeders and owners.

For myself, I was quite allergic to cats when I was younger, however
things like washing hands after petting the cat and not getting the fur
in my face, lessened that considerably and I believe with time I got
accustomed.  I currently have 5 cats with no allergy problems.
