I already know that she likes hot chocolate because she's always trying to
drink from my cup!  But she goes after my tea as well.  My mother thinks its
because the tea is sweet?

I don't know?

She also likes potato chips?

Where did she get these strange tastes?

Personally I think its because she sees us drinking the tea and eating the
potato chips and she wants them as well.  I guess she figures if humans like it
then she can like it too?

In the household, you're the head cat.  They see the head cat doing
it.

The theobromine in chocolate can be toxic to cats in large doses. Having it
lick a small amount, or drink a hot chocolate is UNlikely to give the cat a
LD.

Caffeine is also toxic in large quantities. According to a few websites, the
LD is approximately 150mg per kilogram. My 5kilo cat (who loves milky tea
dregs) would have to down about 6 FULL cups of tea in a day to get anywhere
near that. So, generally, it isn't toxic to cats in the dose you would find
even in the full cup of tea. My cats drink tea & coffee dregs all the time,
and on occasion I empty some into their bowl which they appreciate. I
wouldn't let them drink espresso, though...
