PJ has been scratching lately, but I didn't know what brand of flea
treatment to get him. On the grocery run to Wal-Mart today, I found
they had 3 brands; Sergeant's (regular and 'gold' varieties), Hartz
(nightmare stories), and another ("Nexxum" or something, about $7.00 ).
Is the Sergeant's Gold okay, or should I hunt around for Fronline or
Advantage?
Here's what Sergeant's has
Etofenprox...........................55.00%
Pyriproxyfen...........................2.20%
INERT INGREDIENTS......42.80%
Anything frightening there? I remember that it was pyrethrins that made
Hartz so dangerous and that they refused to recognize the problem.
Any help you can offer, thanks alot.

Im not sure, but personally I wouldn't risk it. Frontline fights fleas for
3 months (ticks for only one) so in the long run, the frontline is actually
cheaper than most OTC, and way safer.

I don't use any OTC flea/tick treatments on cats.
Go to a feed store or Pet store and find Advantage.

Seeing your cat go into seizures is a bummer (I have using Petco shelf
brands). Use Frontline or Advantage.

My boyfriends cat tried to lick the stuff off and started foaming at the
mouth. Then there was the vomiting and the eventual and inevitable vet call
anyway. Cost more to use the OTC stuff than it would have to just go get
the right thing.
If PJ is itching really bad and can't wait for the vet, bathe him in Dawn
dish detergent. It will not repel fleas, but it will kill the ones on him
and provide temporary (and safe) relief.
