I did read somewhere that cats urinating in the bathtub can be a  sign of
infection (the tub cools the infection) but whether that would apply to a
cat defecating in the tub I don't know.  Perhaps try a different litter
substance/type?

The first step is to get the cat down to the vet and have it  checked
for an underlying medical problem    The vet may well want a stool
and/or urine sample.

Pour bleach into the tub - she won't go near it.

Interesting to see how many idiots here suggest expensive vet visits because
they do nothing but follow the "I inject my cats with drugs and have their
parts removed like everyone else" herd like sheep.

She's not declawed is she?  Lots of declawed cats have inappropriate
elimination issues because their toes have been amputated.

The first stop should be your vets for a urinalysis and general checkup.
Most issues like this (if the animal isn't declawed) have a medical basis
rather than a behavioral one.

If the vet rules out a medical problem, then try changing the litter, or
using a larger box, or covering or uncovering the box. Some cats like
separate litterboxes for poop and pee, so add a box also.  Try Feliway for
anxiety if something in the environment has changed. (New family member, new
dog outside that they can see from the window, etc.)

Hi, My cat never had this problem but i know a friend who sorta had a
problem like this.  You should try putting the litter box in the bath tub
for a week, then move it beside the bathtub for a couple days, then move it
to the door way, then they moving it out of the bathroom.. I hope this helps

Hi , I dont know if you already got it figured out yet, but my suggestion is
to put the litter box into the bath tub then move it out after a week, to
right beside the bath tub, then when he seems to keep doing it there, move
it to the door way, then when he seems to be doing good there move it just
outside the door and close the bathroom door. . I hiope this helps.

Hi all:

I have a similiar problem. We have a spare bedroom on the second floor, and
my 13 year old kitty seems to think that the bed is an appropriate place to
do her business. She has never peed there that i could tell, just poops. I
usually go in there in the morning to check it, and there is often feces on
the bedspread. Just now, I'm in the room next door and heard her jump off
the bed. Sure enough, there were two fresh pieces of poop.

She has been taking lactulose for a couple of years on the advice of our
vet, because she's had constipation problems in the past. I don't know if
that's related or not. I'd really rather not have a litter box in the
bedroom up there. Any idea what could be causing this behavior?
