Beautiful new fountain, burbling nicely in the place the old water dish
was...and cats are having none of it. Any suggestions please?

We got one at first, set it up in the kitchen and cats were afraid of it!!!!
So we unplugged & emptied it (all the while cursing the finicky cats), and
set it in a high traffic/central area of the house (an area the cats *have*
to
travel through to get from one area of the house to another but had plenty
of room that cats could avoid the fountain until they felt that it was
'safe' to
approach), and let the cats get used to the presence of it first. Slowly (a
couple of feet a day) I moved it closer to their drinking bowl, and then I
let it set there a couple of days. Then I filled it with water while *not*
filling their other dish with water. Now they were drinking out of the
fountain without it on. Finally, I plugged it in. At the time, I only had
3 cats (1 @ 11yo, 1 @ 10yo, and 1@ 2yo), and they still drank from it.
Then I found an abandoned kitten, just a day or so old, in our yard. As he
grew up, the only water he'd ever had has been from a Drinkwell. In April,
I
found 4 more kittens and adopted one of them out in August, but still have
the other three, and they all grew up with the fountains. Some of my 7 like
to drink from the stream, some from the bowl, but some will drink from
either.
... and yet several of them LOVE drinking from the tub faucet, and will come
running whenever we are in there & they notice, begging us to turn on a thin
stream of cold water for them.

My three guys were afraid of it at first, but after a few days they got
used to it. Now they all drink from it as if it was always there.

It took Sasha about a week to warm up to the idea. I put it
where her old water dish was and moved that one..but
kept it in the same general area. First she ran from the
fountain, then she stalked it...within a week she
was drinking from it.

yes use both to start off with the cats will soon get used to it, have to
tried turning the setting right down too..... 2 of mine loved it as a toy
from the word go... the 3rd one, took several weeks to get used to it. I
have always used filtered water for the cats anyway! too many chemicals in
the water round here.

Lucky you!! My cats love to jump into the sink to play with running water, but
now that it comes to drinking out of a $50 fountain, they balk. Ah, pussycats!!

we brought ours from the vets, I think some pet shops sell them too,
do a Google U.K. search for Petmate Fresh Flow, if you want to buy one on
line.
