What I Remember Best About Dimos...My Fondest Memories

Dimos was a wonderful, friendly, loving and unusual cat. He tragically met
his end one Friday morning on May 14, 2004 as he was attacked by two dogs
while exploring around in the back yard.

Dimos would always follow me when I would make a trip to the upstairs
bathroom where he would come up and let me pet his head or scratch his
belly. It was a given that he would stretch long up the wall near the paper
hanger...every time! After this he would like to hop in the bathtub and I
would turn the faucet on at a trickle and watch him 'discover' where it was
coming from while taking quick little cat-paw jabs into the trickle. This
would always amaze him. As I increased the flow he would kind of sit back
and just watch it like he was getting close to an answer.

Sometimes we let Dimos into our bedroom. Not very often, but he would like
to follow me up to bed and if he wasn't too adventuresome, he would walk up
to me and nuzzle as I was lying down. After getting all the attention he
needed, he would settle down near the end of the bed, curl up and fall
asleep.

Dimos had the most peculiar and unusual ways of sitting down. You might
catch him lying down under a dining room chair with his hind quarters on the
floor and his front legs propped neatly up and over one of the leg supports.
If he wasn't here, you could find him curled up on top of my Brother laser
printer next to my computer desk. Yeah, it slowed down the output and I did
get an occasional jam, but he was great company and I would really love to
be able to look over again and see Dimos lying there again.

The day before Dimos died I remember seeing him sitting by the back dining
room window with his front paws resting on the window sill while his back
end was on Brenna's new baby bath box about 5 or 6 inches higher. He was
quite interested in a squirrel that was busy right outside.

The previous summer in 2003, poor Dimos had a couple unfortunate one-way
trips up the tree outside our dining room. Each time we had to call a tree
service to have him rescued. He darn near climbed to the very top and
couldn't get any higher. This led to us getting his front paws declawed.
Although it was for his own good, I feel bad that we had to do it because he
sure could have shown those 2 dogs a thing or two!

Nice to have those memories of Dimos.

That's why my cats are inside cats.  I just couldn't stand to have them run
over or killed by a dog.

I'm sorry to hear about Dimos. I really am. Declawed cat have no business
outside. It's irresponsible.  Also...if there's a threat of dogs in the
neighborhood, please keep your cat inside or in an outside enclosure so this
kind of thing doesn't happen again..
