Cats & Ferrets - a question...

I have 4 indoor only cats - they have all their
claws, are up to date with vaccinations, etc.

Does anyone have both cats & ferrets?
I am thinking about getting 2 ferrets and I
was wondering how they react with cats -
Are ferrets capable of killing cats if they are
cornered?  Is there a good way to introduce
the 2 animals to each other?  Is there a way
to "over ride" the cat's desire to go after the
ferrets, or, are the ferrets too large and the
cats don't go after them?

Thanks for your help -

Hi Christi.  I have cats, and at one time I was 'ferret sitting' for
about 2 months, for 2 ferrets.  They wanted to play with the cats like
crazy, but the cats wouldn't have anything to do with it. (I'm
guessing they couldn't get pass the smell)

Other than that, I don't believe there is a problem with letting them
all hang out together.  (If YOU can stand the smell)

One more thing, I'm not positive about this, but I've never heard of
ferrets being litter box trained.

No idea myself, but the few people I know who have had ferrets didn't
strike me as the kind that would put up with ferret droppings all over
the place (well me neither for that matter)... hang on, I'll look it up
(Google is your friend)...

My ferrets were litter box trained.

Well then.......I stand corrected :)  I'm glad you posted with that
Jen. Did your ferrets have free run of the house?

When I was in High School, I had a cute little gray bunny who lived
inside, that was litter box trained.  She was so adorable, and was
very good about the box.  However, she liked to get behind the couch
occasionally, which was no big deal, until my Mom moved it one day
while vacuuming and we saw that Bunners' had been grazing on the
carpeting.  In fact the carpet, for the entire length of the couch was
completely grazed down to the backing.

My son has 2 ferrets and has had them for a few years, he brought in a
kitten and they all played well together until the kitten turned into a
cat, she got to rough for the ferrets. So he kept them a part from each
other.
Hope that helps, good luck.
