My cat X is constantly bringing home 1/2 of whatever she caught,
usually headless and or torsoless. I know that this is normal
behavior, but how can I get her to put it on the BACK porch not the
FRONT porch?

just re-route the sidewalk and street so that your front door is the back
and visa-versa
maybe not terribly practical, but a lot easier than trying to train a cat

My understanding is this is considered a compliment to you
from the cat. The cat is giving you half of it's "catch" for
the day.

I understand that, I'm just trying to convince the cat (queen) to find
a new silver platter!

Consider yourself lucky that the cat chooses the front porch. A few
years ago my cat chose my bed to plop the prize on.

When I wrote "By putting it there yourself!!" in a recent post I did not
mean to be silly, but I didn't express myself clearly either.
Can you not show your cat how to move the prey to the back door?
She might learn by watching you. Tell me if it works.
Please tell me what happens if you leave the prey at the back: does she eat
it, is she sulking, does she carry it to the front again?
I guess the front door is where you mostly let her in and out,
so she thinks that's where she gets your attention.

I'll give that a try. Right now she just leaves the food at the door,
but it's usually half eaten, top half is for her, we get the torso??
I've seen her bring a bunny, and a little while later it's gutted,
eyes are removed (still looking at you), and headless.
It's a tad disturbing.

Look, I had this cat, Minka, who I loved dearly. But she brought up to three
big fat dead mice home per night. I heard her throw them about and then eat
them ... crunch, crunch, when the bones cracked. I never really liked that
about her. Now she's dead, and I'd love to hear her at night again, if I
could get her back. There's always something ...

Oh absolutely. Praise her and tell her what a wonderful hunter she is, and just
watch her preen. Of course, she might get the idea that *you* need to learn to
hunt, and she'll start bringing you half-dead mice, just like her mom taught
*her*.
Be glad for the moment that it's dead. Dead means it's a gift.

My cat brings mice and birds in through the cat flap *alive* and then let's
them go in the house...Oh how we laugh...NOT. When it's 3am and your trying
to catch a mouse in a jam jar, you really appreciate the "present" they have
bought you.
Seriously though, the only way I have found to stop the animal farm growing
is to keep my cat in at night as she only hunts when it's dark. Another
thing you could try is only letting her in through the back door, so then
maybe she will learn not to go to the front door at all, might work.
What ever you do *don't* get a collar with a bell on as a) they don't work;
and b) it will drive you insane
