About a week ago we noticed a cat running around the apartment
complex. We haven't had strays around here for a few years so I
assumed it was someone's indoor cat that got out because I saw a collar
on it and all it seems to do is hide in bushes and meow and meow and
meow (like its really scared). I have been trying to catch up to it for
a few days now and tonight I was finally able to coax it near me with a
can of food. It has a collar on it but its just a flea collar (and I
found out tonight that one of the other residents put it on the cat).
I'm not a vet but the cat seemed to be in good health. It had claws on
all 4 paws and wasn't skinny at all. Although, it did have a small nick
in one of its ears. We have 2 cats of our own and cannot take it in.
We left food and water for it and left it out for the night (it was
already 10pm when I caught up to it). Tomorrow, I plan on looking for
it again and I hope to take it to the humane society or a no-kill
shelter (we live in Aurora, IL). Are there any other alternatives?

Have you tried putting up posters around your apartment complex? Maybe he's
lost, or maybe he's a resident's cat who just lets him out. On the other hand,
sometimes people leave pets behind when they move. He's probably better off at
a no-kill than running around an apartment complex, though. Good luck.

I don't know where you live but check craig's list for pet adoption
(craigslist.com), free classifieds. Does your or a friends corporation have
a firm classifieds? we did and most law firms have them.
Hopefully there will be a classifieds in or near your area. or how about
searching for a pet rescue org in your area. nyc has citicritters (sp?)
(dot com?), cause for paws etc., causeforpaws.com. google it!
Good luck and on behalf of all the homeless kitties, thank you!
Harriet, cat lover.

See if your local newspaper has a lost and found pet section. See if anyone has
lost a cat meeting the description of this one.
Or you could run an ad saying you found this cat. Or possibly someone in your
complex would be willing to take it in.
I am glad the cat has claws on all four paws as declawing cats even if they
stay inside is wrong.

Could you feed it for a few days or so until you see if anyone answers
posted signs? I've found a few homes for strays in the neighborhood --
asked around at work, etc. Sometimes I've helped with getting their
shots and spay/neuter.
If you can't find it another home, then a no-kill shelter would I think
be the second choice.
Good luck,
Rhonda

Just a suggestion for a shelter if no one claims the little guy;
http://www.save-a-pet-il.org/ I'm in UK so not sure how close this is to
Aurora, but it is in Illinois so maybe they could advise you of a centre
close to you; I know a guy who works there and they're great people.

Is the small nick in it's ear large enough to be a notch? If so, this cat
might have already been trapped, neutered and released. You could call
around to the local rescue groups and shelters and see if they have had this
cat in before and find out where he is supposed to be.
