My boyfriend just got a kitten a week ago and his tummy seems a bit swollen.
He is eating, drinking and using the litter pan, but I just wanted to see if
anyone thinks we should move up his vet appointment. We're supposed to take
him Friday, but will go sooner if this is a more immediate problem. Thanks
for the help!

I would move the appoinment up if possible or go to another vet.
Maybe nothing, maybe something serious or something to be concerned
about. Only a vet can really be in a position to tell that for sure.
The vet may want a stool sample.

Definitely take a stool sample. The kitten likely has worms hence the round
tummy but a stool sample can confirm this.

Maybe worms, maybe not. But what is needed for a vet to look at the
cat, examine the cat, run any needed tests.
I would not assume it is worms and wait until your appoinment.

Hi Ally,
I think I'd take it in earlier. It could just be worms, but swollen
stomach can also be a sign of FIP.
Let us know,
Rhonda

I was going to say the same thing. The first (and only) kitten
I ever bought from a pet store came down with FIP within
a week of bringing her home. We got her to the vet right
away but she was just too little and didn't recover from the
surgery. My cat was more depressed than we were. Never
saw a male cat take to a little kitten that way. sigh..poor
Yoda.
