I used to talk to one of my cats, Charlotte, and it was like she was trying
to talk back to me by copying my open and closed mouth movements. but of
course nothing came out but a chomp-chomp sound.  It was so cute.  She
didn't do this every time but often.
My current love, Siri-Anna, is scrumptious.  [A bit off subject], but
whenever I open a little dresser drawer that I keep her grooming implements
in, she goes wild.  all i have to do is open it.  she gets up from wherever
she is and starts meowing wildly.
Did you ever hear that primal meow, like a low gutteral sound, not at all
like a regular meow, like she looking for something or even calling me.  She
never does this when I am nearby only from another room.  It's really
strange but I call her and she comes and hangs out with me.

One of mine will meow every time I say "meow" -- We have long
conversations sometimes.  If I stop he'll walk away, but if I say "meow"
again he'll come right back and meow at me some more.

My cat Zoe will talk to me when I talk to her.  Mostly when I call her name,
meow at her, ask her if she wants to play or ask her what she wants or what
she is doing.  We have longs conversations back and forth.  Usually she will
meow and I will respond with "you don't say?" and we will continue like
that.  Zeus on the other hand is not very talkative unless he wants to eat,
had "killed" his catnip mouse for me, or is looking for me.  He meows very
quietly when he wants to eat or wants a treat, but will let out a low
guttural yowl when he is in another room or "kills" his mouse to present to
me.  Usually I call to him and he comes running and curls up on my lap.

Hi there.I have a seven year old Bengal male and he has always"spoken" to
me. I don't know if it is the tone of my voice, but he actually seems to
answer back.Often with different lenghts and tones of meow.

Well mine doesn't respond to me EVERYTIME but she is quite talkative
and you want to hear something eerie?  Sometimes she'll answer me
BEFORE I say something - LOL!  It doesn't happen a lot just every once
in a while.  But she is definitely more talkative than my first cat
was.

"How in the heck did I ever get talked into this?"

My cats talk to me all the time, they sleep with me every night and even
know their names. I would guess this is common for all cats as well as
other animals. I would like to make one suggestion, please avoid
referring to your cat as an "it" he or she will do just fine. "It"
implys that your cat is a thing, an inanimate object devoid of
personality. And from what you have witnessed, is aware of his/her
surroundings and verbally acknologes you.
