A friend is going through a divorce. He and
his wife have at least 10 cats and neither of
them are going to have a place to keep them...
sort of hard to believe for someone who has
'collected' so many. Does anyone have a
good idea for finding good homes for adult
cats? Yes, we are taking one. : -) but that is
all we can do.

I'd take them all, but my wife would divorce me.

If you gave us some idea of where in the world you might get some
constructive offers.

It is sad that people who decide to take on so
many animals do not make plans for them under
such circumstances. I can understand the upheaval of
divorce and seperation but can honestly say that my
responsibility didn't end towards my animals any more
then than it ended towards my children.
The only thing for your friends to do would be to advertise
for homes in the paper, or else surrender them to a refuge,
preferrably a no-kill refuge. Hopefully they will be adopted by
someone who will continue to care for them under any circumstance.

My mother-inlaw (EX) is in her late 70s and has 10 cats that she has
taken in and the majority of them are around 2 / 3 years old. She
lives on a farm by herself and people tend to drop their unwanted cats
off there. She took in 2 that had kittens.
I have tried to talk her into putting ads in paper, calling humane
society, ETC but she will not because she is worried what kind of home
they might get. I have 4 and live in apartment and my ex-wife has 3
which is all she can have and the other kids have all told her that
they will not take any and her vet has found homes for 5 but can find
no homes for more as of now. I should say she feeds them all good and
takes to vet when needed. They are all in good health but if anything
would happen to her they would either be surrendered to the county
shelter and they will keep them for up to 5 days then ---------- or
they would just be turned loose. My one ex brother-in-law who
dislikes cats said he would shoot them all.
I have tried all I can to get her to find homes for at least some of
them while she can but it is like talking to a wall. Any
suggestions??

I suggest that the greatest hope, would be to work like a dickens and get
these two to stay together. Beg them to get marital counseling. Do what you
can, to get them to solve their problems, instead of walking away from this
marriage and their 10 cats.
