Need Help Getting Cat to Leave Alone Old Wound

Hope you can help. My cat, Jaws, had two abscesses. He was quite sick. I
took him to the Vet. The abscesses were lanced, cleaned, and stitched
up. He got better.

But, after a while I noticed that he simply would not leave the old
wound alone, constantly cleaning and rubbing at it. The stitches came
out on their own as the vet said they would. I took Jaws back to the Vet
and a substitute Vet ( the main Vet was on vacation ) gave me a topical
ointment called Animax. That seemed to help some, but was only temporary
and Jaws mainly just cleaned off the ointment and kept at it. I'm
wondering if there is a topical ointment intended for humans that might
also help. I'm thinking of Neosporin. Jaws does not seem to be in any
pain and does mind my rubbing the old wound, so I think it's just
irritated/itchy and needs something to alleviate _that_ until he starts
leaving it alone and it completely heals. My situation is that I
don't/can't get med. treatment for myself due to lack of funds, much
less take Jaws to a Vet again.

TIA,
koyaanisqatsi

How about some sloe vera gel? It should clean the scar and heal it all
at the same time.

Sounds like a good idea. I'll give it a try. Your post reminded me of
Cocoa Butter, which I used on my own scar many years ago.

Thanks,
