just wondering if anyone could share any tips/info - There was a
hungry/thirsty kitten in the parking lot where I work.  At first, I just
put some water out for it, which she drank a little of.  (This is AZ, so
I'm sure she was very hot too).

About an hour later, I just brought her inside and on to a vets and on
home.

She weighed 1.2 lbs the day I found her - I've had her less than a week,
but she's definitely gained a little weight at least.

One thing I'm concerned about is will being alone all day while I work
be an issue?

She's really starting to explore more and getting bolder about climbing
things, which is going be be difficult since I expect she'll be knocking
things out of their places.

I tried keeping her out of the TV cabinet - a gigantic thing from the
'70s.  The new TV is too big to fit inside, so that's where the DVD,
VCRs and cable box are. along with all the wires, of course.

I forgot to shut it one nite, and the next morning, she was sleeping
peacefully on top of the stack of components.  I closed it the next
nite, and she had evidently been clawing at the opening trying to get
in.  So far, that's the only thing she's clawed enough to actually
damage.

I did get her a scratching thing, but she hasn't shown any interest in
it.   Anyway, she's a little sweetheart.

I got her some salmon/tuna flavored treats, but she hasn't eaten a
single one.  She sniffed a lot at the first one I tried to give her, but
that's about it.  I guess they're probably not very good.

How old is she, do you think?
Young kittens probably shouldn't be having  treats always. Just stick with a
good kitten food and slowly add in other foods and treats.

Ahhhhh....I am so glad you two found each other.

Yep :-)  but not an overcomable obstacle.  Pretend your two year old
niece is coming to visit.  Move anything that the kitten can put in her
mouth, strangle herself with or damage enough to upset you.  Particularly
latch up anything she can eat that may be harmful.  I had to put child locks
on a lot of my cabinets because my last cat was very good at opening them.
( I let her have the linen closet)

She was looking for a warm (those electronic components give off
heat) dark place to snooze.  Try finding her a similar but more kitty
friendly place that she can call her own.  Eventually she will probably
want it in your bedroom but sometimes they like an alone spot too.

You didn't say how old she was.  She may be too young or it's possible
she doesn't really know what it's there for.  Put a little bit of cat nip on
it and mimic a cat scratching it for her.  Also, some cats have different
surface preferences.  My current friend Sasha likes the corrugated
card board stuff..but neither of my previous cats would tough it.  They both
wanted carpet.  None of them ever showed interest in the rope.

Be sure to get her lots of toys and show her how to play with them.
Good luck...can't wait to hear how she is fairing.

Congrats on your new kitty!  Can you possibly adopt a second kitty so they can
keep each other company while you're at work?

Try setting up an open box lying on it's side (just barely open) that she
can sneak into--they seem to love hiding in them.

It really depends on the cat. Just make sure you play a lot with her when
you come home. Most cats sleep a lot during day time.

Just put prescious and dangerous things away until she's older.

Unplug the cables, she'll be fine.

Be glad, saves you some money. Just give her dry kitten food and some wet
food plus water.
All the best with your kitty!

That's a bit much, I think.  In theory, I could make sure everything's
plugged into 1 power strip (if it's a big enough one), but there would
be several things I would have to constantly reset the time on - or be
content with my VCRs and TV always flashing 12:00.

I think I'm going to modify the TV cabinet so the only thing she'll have
access to is the top of the components.  It will be the first major
modification to it since I had to replace the original TV.  I consider
it a family heirloom even though it's not quite 30 years old.

TV cabinets were better in the '70s, even though TVs themselves are
better now.

Your little gal might enjoy some KMR drizzled on her dry kitten food like a
sauce.  It's really nutritious and they love the taste (it's a cat milk
replacement).  It's pricey but with just one kitten a can of the powder should
last until she graduates from high school  ;-)

Congratulations, by the way!  May you and the little one have a long and happy
relationship!  Let us know what you decide to name her!  What does she look
like?
