kitten pee problem

We are still having a problem with one of our kittens urinating occasionally
outside of the litter box and have run out of ideas to correct the problem.
We have litter mate kittens is 5m old., male and female, both nuetered and
always inside.
The male will still occasionally urinate outside the box, against the wall
on the carpet (next to litter box).
They share a litter box that is cleaned every day.
Its clumping clay that forms around urine and the litter is never wet.
We tried different litters and he seems to be attracted to this one we think
becuase its finer grain (the problem was worse when he was younger)
He does use the box most of the time.
They have had recent vet checkups and 100% fine.
The urine spots are cleaned and deorderized with "Natures Best" to remove
attracting smell.
We think it is a large amount of urine and not just a spot, like he is
marking...although there is spotting too we notice.
We have in the past put a 2nd litter box over the spots he was using and he
would still spot next to the box on the carpet.
He seems to only use this one area of the house, near the litter box.

Any suggestions on what else we can try?

Thank you for any help

You did not mention if he's been neutered or not.  Getting that done
sometimes fixes the problem as well as the cat.

At the same time, I would have the vet check to see if he's got a urinary
tract prollem. If so, he could be experiencing pain and associating the box
with that pain.

If not (as was a case with us when we had a particularly persistent little
guy), you might be able to put another separate box in that spot.  But not
necessarily with litter in it.  Just put down about four folded paper towels
(or more if you like) and let him have his way with it.  Tack a wide piece
of plastic sheeting to the wall so that any residue will run down into the
box.  (Some cats simply do not like litter rocks of any kind and will even
do their big jobs next to the box.  Some cats are simply poor judges of
distances and over-shoot the firing range.)

If that fails, try putting down a big piece of plastic sheeting that will
cover a wide area under the box and the spot where he's so attracted to.  As
with the previous suggestion, you can run it up the wall and use thumb tacks
(drawing pins if you're in the UK) to tack it to the wall.  But male sure
the tacks are in all the way and tight because a young cat's curiosity will
be nurtured by the presence of the pin heads.  They're silly that way.

Remember, the cat is doing it for a purpose that makes perfect sense to him.

Some tomcats are sprayers--as are some females.  The bahavio(u)r can be
changed, but it must be done in a way that pleases the cat, not the owner.
Cats are that way.

Sometimes a cat just does not like sharing a tray - and in some extremes
will only go in totally unused litter! Peeing against the wall is marking
behaviour. He is a bit young, but you should have him desexed asap. Ring
your vet to see how soon you can have this done.
My cat will pee on the lid of the bucket where the fresh litter is kept when
the tray needs cleaning, and poop on the floor in front of the tray. I clean
it up and get to work. I can almost imagine her thoughts at the time: "The
maid needed a shake-up". lol.
