Well my other cat shes 12 years old persian cross,

i came home last night and found her gasping for air, cold and had turned
blue, no vets were available so i had to wait till today..

they ran some tests and shes diabetic with high glucose leve, a urea level
of 26, her kidneys and pancrease have shut down and i dont know why but she
has air in her chest cavity so she cant expand her lungs properly, shes also
extreemly dehydrated. and i didnt know until yesterday, i knew she was
loosing a lot of weight over the last few months and wasnt eating much at
all..

shes in the vets overnight on a drip to see if their is any change, but i
think i might have to make a decision to have her put down so she doesnt go
through all the stress..

ive had her since she was 6 weeks old, shes now about 12 years old and im
very attached to my cat..

poor scratch the cat

You other pet owners should take note of this.  If you pet suddenly
stops eating like usual and / or starts loosing weight TAKE IT TO THE
VET if it means anything to you !!!!  I have read so many times in
these groups where people put off taking their babies to the vets for
whatever reason.  If you were sick you would go to the docter most
likely.  Doesn't your loved four legged babies rate the same kind of
treatment ?  If you can not afford to take care of them properly or
are not willing to or they do not mean that but to you maybe it is
time for you to find it a home where someone will want it and care for
it properly .

I am sorry but I just lost my 17 year old Moses (Cat) to kidney
failure even after putting lots of money out to vet and University of
Michigan vet lab try to help him but in the end when his quality of
life started to go downhill we still had to say goodbye to our baby.
Then I come on here and see these people looking for cheap home cures
for their so-called BELOVED pets instead of going to the vet like you
would for yourself !!!  I can see looking for preventatives measures
to keep them well but if they are sick TAKE THEM TO THE VETS if they
mean anything to you.  If not find them a good home with someone else.

Sorry for getting on my soapbox this morning but maybe it will help
even on pet and then it will be worth it!!

I know this is off topic but you do know that the "aus" in aus.pets stands
for ausTRALIA don't you. - not ausTIN.

AFAIK there isin't a campus of the U of Michigan in Australia so that would
suggest you are in George Dubya's little patch of dirt.

Lets not forget those of us, taken advantage by vets. VCA In my opinion
is the worse. They were not honest with me, my cat suffered and died. I
am very wary of vets and they must passs MY test. And thier prices must
pass MY test. Just like If I werwe to go to a Docter I would not give
him the chance to charge me sky high prices or make commission off shots
or surjuries off my illiness. choose you vet like you would choose your
own doctor. They work for you, you don't work for them.

Sorry for your suffering. Sorry for the spilt in your thread. I can't
say anything to make the pain less. But that all that you have done and
the life you are giving to this animal, makes this cat a lucky cat. I
can still feel my Sam. I feel her spirit. Its almost 2 years later and I
have 3 cats now, one an abandoned cat who is 2 years old, and 2 kittens,
one that was found behind an old frig in an alley, the other one was
adopted. I think Sam showed me how to love a cat and I'm able to have a
home for them. she is my inspiration and I know you cat will be yours.

God bless.

money was never mentioned when dealing with this vet, although i feel he did
the best he could they still charged me $350 and requested my other kitten
to have  check up and a booster incase its a viral infection that he could
catch.

I'm sorry to hear about your cat. It's never easy to say goodbye. If she is
struggling to breath and can't eat, then it's time to think about what's best
for her. Does the vet believe her condition can improve?

Also, you state that there was no vet  during the night.  Is there an emergency
clinic in your area that is open during the night? If so...note that so if you
need emergency services in the future, you know where to call!

Keep us posted.

Why did you leave it for months until you took her to the vet? If you are so
attached to her why did you let her suffer all this time and do nothing?

Simply we didn't know,

Since we got a new kitten she had started to act differently, not eating as
much dry food and being more lathargic,  but still would eat her dinners and
drink plenty of water, she was over weight and thought it was just because
she was a little depressed over having a hyperactive kitten always trying to
play with her... We started to feed her fresh meet which she ate like it was
going out of fassion, she would eat a fair amount of that...

i had always thought of scratch as a big kitten but when she was compared to
sparkie a 6 month old kitten we could tell  she was getting old. She was
still do what she had always done, sun her left, and sleep allday and come
up for hugs and attention.

It was only on friday that she told us something was wrong, she had never
breathed funny or acted like this before that night...

Unfortunetly she passed away at the vets overnight, she had 100mls of fluid
drained off her lungs but it came back overnight, she died in her sleep,
probably from a viral infection that caused it. The underlying diabeties
could have been a factor but as the vet said we wont know if that caused it
or not but it would have been a viral infection that created the fluid on
the lungs.

RIP SCRATCH THE CAT 1994-2004 YOU WILL ALWAYS BE MISSED.
