Hello there,

Question from the UK...

I'm due to go on holiday late Sept / early Oct.  My pet used to be looked
after by my next door neighbour but she's moved away now.

So, the issue I have is that I'm going to put the mog into a cattery.  Has
anyone got suggestions on what to look out for, to choose a good home?

I've already been limited by my choice as my cat is F.I.V. positive.

I'd welcome any thoughts pertaining to this.

With thanks,
Matthew

No relatives that might be willing to stop by once a day and feed it
and clean litter box for you ??

I prefer to board my cats at a caring cat hotel because:
Several years ago one of my cats fainted on the scratching post at his cat
hotel. Just fainted & went limp. A freaky thing. The owner saw it happen,
called her Vet who made a housecall. Cat got an EKG immediately, diagnosis and
prompt treatment.
If the cat had been at home with a kindly relative/neighbor/friend/ coming in
once or twice a day to feed, he would have been dead.
Cats do not like changing environments, but I prefer that mine be watched. And
eventually, if they board at their hotel often enough, they begin to think of
it as their second home....and the owner as family. If a cat requires
medication, a kennel keeper is more likely to be knowledgeable about
administering it properly that any neighbor/friend/relative.
It costs me arms & legs, but my peace of mind is worth that.

I'm afraid not, no.  The nearest one lives about 125 miles away.

Your vet might be able to refer you to a reliable catsitter.

Thanks for your assistance one and all.  I went to see a place today and
it's perfect.  The woman knew all about F.I.V.  all the current residents
looked happy and healthy and it's only ?5 a night.

From one pleased puss owner!
