My cat is overweight how can i get him to lose weight.I try to feed him
twice aday biscuits and meat
together.But he worrys alot for food how do i stop him meawing because he
drives me mad
and i end up feeding him.He wont go out much because hes a nervous cat and
only goes out
at night sometimes.How do i get him to exercise more.He is eleven years old
and im worried
i might not have him much longer if he doesnt lose weight.

Continue to feed him twice a day, just smaller portions. Start by feeding him
5% less so he doesn't go too crazy. Measure his food in a cup. Also try feeding
him diet food. You will just have to deal with all the meowing and begging.
It's tough to get cats to lose weight. I would play with him with a laser
pointer or toy on a string. Make him chase it for 20 minutes a day. If he's fat
and old, I wouldn't let him go outside. He could easily be attacked by another
animal or hit by a car.

When you figure it out let me know. In the mean time I give my
overweight cats spcial food that my vet prescribes for overweight
cats. (Purina DM).

Hi Amy

Purina DM is "Diabetes Management", a high-protein food. I fed that to
our diabetic cat.

Are you sure it's not Purina OM ("Overweight Management"), the
restricted calorie food?

It's also lower in carbs which is what puts the weight on cats. I
don't think Purina DM for weight management is out of the question
as long as it is measured.

The vet prescribed DM Diabetes Management food and told us
the food was going to be renamed as a weight management
food.
