I have a long hair cat and she has been getting some matting with age.
Usually I can snip it out with surgical scissors but in some aresa the
matting has gone beyond using the scissors. Can I shave the areas with
a trimmer or is this too drastic? Are there other solutions?  Thanks

you need to be extremely careful when cutting matts out, as the matts are
often very close to the skin and cutting the skin feels very much like
cutting the matt.  Shaving with the trimmer is the safest alternative if you
can't manually break them up and remove them.
