hi we are new here and have a question . we have rescued a cat . two
days before bring her down to be fixed . she had two kittens . ( we kind
of thought she might have been preg.) one of the kittens didnot make it
thru the first week . the other one is doing great . looks like hes
going to be good size. our question , he is three weeks old and looks
like he might not be getting enough milk anymore. should we be getting
him started on something else?(mush)?? if so how do we make mush? we
think the other one die because the mother only had two good teets and
not enough milk.. any advise is greatly appreciated.

I had to hand raise a kitten last year, he was 1 or 2 days old when I got
him (he's now 10 months old, sleek, healthy & VERY spoiled), when. I decided
it was time for him to start being weaned, i bought some human baby food,
MEAT ONLY flavors (he liked chicken best) - and some powdered KMR (Kitten
Milk Replacer). After seeing that he would lick the baby food from a spoon
with no problem, and that he was getting his teeth(he was about 4-5 weeks
old) I mixed in the powdered KMR (3-5 of the scoops per jar of baby food -
until it's the consistency of peanut butter). He at one whole table spoon -
and wanted more. I gave him as much as he wanted. Every other feeding he
got the mush (the other times he still got the formula in a bottle). Next
jar of baby food, I added 1 small can (the 3 +/- ounce size) of kitten food
to the mix. Over the weeks, I thinned out the baby food, then the KMR, and
then when I caught him eating one of our adult cat's food, I started him on
dry kitten food.

It wouldn't hurt to give him some KMR. There's also a 2nd-step KMR for
older kittens, a powder to mix with regular KMR to make it thicker.

Like others have said get some KMR and a small baby bottle (usually
available places like PetSmart).
