Tygab - 15 Jun 2004 09:41 GMT I have two cats, one is a 15lb male, the other a 5 or so lb female. The female has grown up with the male her whole life and I'd always had the impression that she liked him, even if it wasn't fully reciprocal - the male is older, 10.5 yrs, female 6. They haven't ever been best friends but have always gotten along, with some minor scuffles. Usually we'd intervene in more serious skirmishes because the male was more dominant cat and we worried for the smaller cat, but I never really worried that they were trying to seriously harm each other. In the past few days, the female is completely after the male, at least under certain situations. For example, when I was on the couch they were both sitting by me as normal, relaxed (one atop the couch, the other next to me). But when we go near their normal sleeping quarters which they share(d), she attacks him by just outright launching at him. The male isn't fighting back at all, he's just trying to get away. She's snagged him once in the nose already. I am worried he may be ill, any other ideas on what may be causing this? The only other time I've seen her hissing and being the aggressor is when he came back from a hospital stay a few years ago, for a hip surgery. Thx.

I don't know what TED is, but he's got a vet appt on Thursday, just in case. He is not acting sick in terms of throwing up or anything visible, but he is sleeping a lot more than normal and just seems kind of disdainful of everything, or really tired. I just wish there were something I could do until then.

Neg114 - 16 Jun 2004 13:16 GMT I had a somewhat similar experience many years ago, only it involved my one cat and my friends' dog. I had 2 cats that got along very well, and I would occasionally dog sit for a friend. She had a little terrier-type dog, and she would bring it to my apartment and I would dog sit for however long she had to be gone. The cats never had a problem with the dog, she was very gentle and well behaved (and small). One day, my little kitty just attacked the dog for no reason. I mean like hissing, growling and attacking outright. I had to keep them separated for the remainder of the dog's stay because the cat would calm down, and as soon as she would see that dog again she just lit into her. About 6 months or so after this, the vet found a huge tumor in my cat and she had to be put to sleep. I'm NOT implying your cat has a tumor, but maybe there is something going on because I never had any explanation for my cat's behavior. It's good that you are getting her checked out. Good Luck.
