I'm just after reading about Scottish Fold cats. They seem to be an
interesting race.
Has anybody in this group got one?

Weren't Scottish Folds taken off the list as an "official" breed, due to
all of their genetic defects?

Not that I'm aware of, and they don't have myriad genetic
defects. There appears to be a possible lethal gene that causes an
embryo to be reabsorbed by the female when it expresses, but that's it
AFAIK. It means there are smaller litters than usual.

I had heard of some problems. I just did a google search, looks like the
problem is with their tails and with skeletal deformities. They banned
in England using two scottish folds for breeding since that can cause
the deformities, but instead breed one folded ear with one up-eared.
Looks like that was the gene issue I was thinking of.

All I know about the breed is what I've learned from the book:
The first SF was white, and they bread with her. Some of the kittens were
deaf. Mistakenly they blamed the ears for it, but it was the colour.
While breeding in England stopped, it started in America. There they allowed
all colours, but the tail had some defect which was corrected though through
clever breeding. From the US the SF cat made it back to Europe. I think the
cat looks really cuddly. I would not mind having one. Btw there's also the
Scottish Straight and both variations come in long- and shorthair.
