I know this may sound silly but is it better for cats to eat dry food or
canned? Like I said many times its been many years since I have owned a cat
The last cat I owned I was 25 I am 46 now How many times a day do you feed
the cat if its canned food? I have both canned and dry and she RARELY
touches the dry food thanks...Star

Wet food is better for the urinary tract (males) and secures the intake of
water.
Dry food is better for the teeth and tartar control.
My cat would eat canned food only if he could, but I want him to eat dry
too.
So I give him a 100g tin (about 3oz) in the morning and leave the dry food
and water out for him for the rest of the day. Of this he eats about another
100g altogether in about three goes.

Speaking only from my experience, I give my cat warm wet - two spoonfuls - (be
it canned or singles packets) and top it off with a spoonful of dry. I also
tend to mix the dry in the wet. Sometimes she finishes it all sometimes she
doesn't but its no biggie because when she's done, I immediately put it in a
tupperware and refridgerate it. I serve this leftover with a new mixture of wet
and dry for the next meal. She gets two main meals a day and a smaller
'appetiser" meal if she is awake in the afternoons. I always give her a mix of
wet and dry and always warm up the wet food - never straight out of the tin but
thats just me. Remember always use your own discretion and good sense with your
cat's appetite. You don't want to overfeed it to cause obesity and neither do
you want to underfeed it. A good balance of both wet and dry I believe should
be the way to go BUT I am not a cat expert !

I give each cat 1/3 can twice a day (the 5.5 oz. or 6 oz. cans of Wellness
or Felidae). I feed them 12 hours apart, or as close as possible.
Approximately every 3 days, I also put out 1/3 cup of Wellness dry food per
cat and simply let it remain until it is gone -- the cats "snack" on that,
and it often lasts a couple of days. Most experts today seem to recommend
moist instead of dry food, and I have seen a noticeable improvement in my
cats' coats since I switched to premium moist food. I think you are
fortunate that yours want the canned food, and I suggest that you continue
with a good-quality moist food. It took a considerable amount of time for
me to convince mine to switch to canned food, so you are lucky that yours
wants canned food. One of my cats weighs 9 lbs. and the other weighs 8 lbs.
That seems to be an ideal weight for them, and the amount I mentioned
maintains this weight with very little fluctuation. Be sure to use premium
food.
