Hi,
I have been allergic to my dog for sometime now, I am also
allergic to other substances too but I think the main culprit is the
dog. When I get an attack I have difficulty breathing but these
attacks are never accompanied by wheezing and coughing. What I'd like
to know is whether this condition is asthma or something else as I
do'nt cough and wheeze like most asthmatics. A medical opinion will be
appreciated. I can't tie up the dog as my dog is almost human and very
sensitive. I can't give him away because he is very hostile and bites
and no one would wan't to take him. So under the circumstances what
can I do ? will vacuum cleaning the house help.

Go and see a doctor, he'll be able to check it out and give you medication
that will help you live with your dog.

A clean house always helps -- likewise, a clean dog. Some dog
training would also seem to be necessary in this case.It is not good
to keep a biting dog -- in fact it could be disasterous.

Well, you can go about your life guessing about it or go to the doctor for
allergy tests. This would confirm if you're allergic to your pet or something
else. I've lived with cats for over 25 years and had allergies 25 years...I
was surprised to learn that my allergies had nothing to do w/my cats...I went
over the top on it..I had 9 allergy (skin AND blood) tests by 9 different
doctors in 10 years.

After learning what you are allergic to (by seeing a doc & having allergy tests
- skin AND blood tests), I would suggest that you vacuum daily (if your house
is dusty..mine is & I must vaccum every day..the cat hair is unbelievable), I
was also instructed to wear a (surgical) mask when I dust/clean to prevent
further breathing problems. I have 2 HEPA filters; one in the living room and
one in my bedroom: check Consumer Reports for the best one. Wash your clothers
in chemical free detergent..it can't hurt.
