best bait for cat trap?

What is a good bait that will have long lasting smell to attract a cat to a
havahart trap?
Just cat food scums over after a day and Im not sure is effective then.

I have caught more than 50 cats, mostly in a havaheart trap, and I use
sardines in veggie (soy) sauce.
The brand I have best success with is Martel Sardines found at Walgreen's
Drug Store.

I catch them, spay/neuter/inoculate and then release them. I never give
cats to SPCA because they kill them.

Be sure to monitor the trap regularly.

Something like tuna. Someone else said sardines, that sounds like a
great idea. And when you monitor the trap, stand down-wind.
