My cat has lived in a flat for six years, now she has a garden and loves it,
how can I get her to stop using her cat litter tray indoors?

Though I wouldn't discourage the use of the indoor tray completely - she
might need it in an emergency. You can try pouring a bag of soil in a corner
of your garden and then introduce her to it.

If you find a way, let me know: I have eleven cats that have 24/7
access to the outside, and I still have to maintain five litter pans.
Some of the cats prefer the outdoors, but the ones that were raised
indoors and several of the unknown background cats seem require a
litter pan - even coming in from quite a distance to use the pan, then
going back out.

Both of my cats used the litter box still for about three months after they
were allowed outside. Give her time, but you can speed things up by not
cleaning the pee out so thoroughly. She might then look for a cleaner place.
One of my cats still uses the box occasionally when it's raining.

I'm not so sure I would want my cat using my garden...I mean I do
garden out there <G>.  This just reminds me of Sasha.  She will
run in the house, go back to use her box, than run back outside
just like a little kid.  Cracks me up.

Think this over -- keep a clean litter box inside and let her use it.
If she goes outside in your garden you will still need to clean it
otherwise you will attract flies and other insects.  Also, when you
garden you will run into "stuff" that won't be pleasant.    I found
buried dog poo ten years after the fact -- not nice!   MLB
