Urination Problem

Hey guys,
My cat has just recently been having problems with using the litter
pan. For the past few weeks I would find some urine on the mat outside
the opening of her covered litter box. This wouldn't be every day -
about every other day. There are still urine clumps in the litter pan.
I clean the pan every day. Well, today I was off from work finally and
I saw her using the pan. Well, she stepped into the covered pan but
she did not crouch down all the way so her rear was sticking out of
the hole a little bit and sure enough the urine landed on the mat
outside the pan. Then she turned around to defecate.
Any ideas how to modify this behaviour. Should I take the cover off
and see if this helps?  I've seen those large litter boxes that she
would have to walk in and around to the other side to use the litter.
I saw these at PetsMart for about $40 a while ago. Thanks for any
advice.

It's not unusual for a cat to *miss* the box from time to time; and she may
be a bit too crowded in there.  Think about doing your business in the tiny
toilet on an airliner and you can get an idea how she might feel.

I stopped using covered boxes long ago; and for certain cats with poor aim,
I went to the discount store and bought larger plastic pans with taller
sides.  These cost about $5 each at WalMart and are made by Rubbermaid or
Sealtite, I think.

Be sure and keep the litter fresh fresh fresh.  Think smelly barroom toilet,
and...well, you get the idea.
