hi
i am thinking about adding another 2 cats to my 5 already and i was
wondering how many cats you have and if you have had any problems with them
getting along when you added another furry member to the family.  Right now
we have 2 litter boxes in the basement with 2 cats who won't come upstairs,
but live with my brother that are scooped daily, and then one litter maid on
each of the 2 top floors.  If we get another 2 i will add the litter box
they will come with into the house since they are used to it, and one of the
kitties is almost blind, she can see a little light.  Then in june i'll
probably get another littermaid to add to the mix, but i'll see how it goes
until then.

also i was wondering if anyone knows of any problems with spaying and giving
shots so an almost blind kitty, she hasn't had either, but i think that's
because they can't afford it, or don't want to do it.  i'll try to find out
more info later.  they might not even have the kitties still.

thanks for reading and the story of the kitties is below if you want to read
it

i'll never get people, i mean why get an animals if you can't care for it,
or if you have a change in your life and aren't willing to make sure you can
keep your pet.  That's my rant for tha day and i'll explain a little more on
it below.

i work at a pet store with an adoption center,  well there was a mother and
daughter cat that had to go together because the mother had a litter out in
the wilderness and they got ill and the only one to survive was the kitten,
who was blind.  because they had to go together the mother was spayed and
the kitten came with a 20 dollar discount off a spay and it was adoption fee
for mom and donation for kitten.  well i was going to get them because i
fell in love with them there was another worker though that was thinking
about getting them, while since he was thinking about getting them first so
i let him decide if he wanted them or not.  he was thinking about it for a
while and the adoption center was going to switch organizations the 2 days
so i phone and asked if he still wanted them, he said he'd phone his
girlfriend and i could call back later that night and see.  so i called back
later that night and he said they didn't want them.  so next day i go there
to adopt them, and he's there adopting them then.  i was mad but let him
have them.

now a few months later and girlfriend got pregnat, cats aren't as laid back
as they would like them to be and they are worried about upcoming baby, so
guess what, cats are up for adoption.  I couldn't belive it when i read it,
not only were they up for adoption but the hadn't even spayed the kitten, i
mean she was adopted in december and about 3-5 months old then so she has
probably been into heat a few times.  I mean if you can't afford to spay
them why on earth did you adopt them, the kitten even came with a coupon for
20 off a spay.  they can afford to smoke pot (or at least they did before
she got preg) but not spay there cat.

so not i'm trying to get someone i know to adop the cats where i know they
are going to a loving home and not to someone who wants a free cat with
supplies.  if i can't find someone i may try to get my mom to allow me to
adop them, i mean what's 2 more when you already have 5.  I really want them
but i don't know how that would upset the balance in my house since we
already have 5 cats.  2 live in the basement with my brother and who hate
the other cats because they were here first and they have always loved the
basement, they can come up if the wanted to, but don't want too.  the other
3 are on the top 2 floors of my townhouse and all get along with each other,
one is the boss though , even though she's the smallest.  I know we will
have to put down one dog and cat soon as they are getting up in years and
there health is failing, but that could be another 1 or more, but i think
less.

25 inside, Oldest about 17, youngest about 13 months.  16 of which are
females.

I harbor 10 more ferals outside that are basically untouchable.  Some have
handicaps, but all have warm sleeping places that are out of the weather,
with ample fresh water and twice-daily feedings.

You know you want them, so take them in.

I have 11.5 cats (the 0.5 is actually my neighbor's chief mouser, but
when the grandchildren are visiting, he lives over here).

I have had a little trouble from a couple of overly aggressive males
(hardly any were neutered when I got them, but they are now) - I
rehomed them to homes where they had a kitten for a playmate, but no
adults - they are doing well even as the kittens grow up).  The others
get along reasonably well, except that the beta mail does sometimes
attack the smallest female.  All have 24/7 access to inside/outside,
food, and water.

I have 3, and yes I've had problems. I have a terminally ill one (Shadow)
and I shouldn't have other cats with him, but a foster cat (Shamrock) I
had at the time he got sick was settled, and no one else wanted him. Then
along came a very wild feral 4-5 month old little girl (Bonnie) and no
one would take her either, after I trapped her and had her spayed and
shots. The two young ones cause stress that Shadow really doesn't need
but we deal with it.  I love them all.

There shouldn't be any problems. If the cat is healthy enough (and the
vet would know) there shouldn't be any issues with either.

I read your rant and I agree 100% and there is no changing people.  I
hope it made you feel better to rant, and that some are listening. Now we
just need the *right* people to listen. <sigh>  Good luck with the
kitties. It sounds like you're leaning towards taking them?  If so, and 7
isn't that much more than 5 but you might want to check what your area
limits are.  Some don't care, some of those limits don't even make sense
for people who really do care.  I feel as long as they are being cared
for, the more the merrier. :)  I know, I am no help. I just want to say
that you're compassionate and you want to do the right thing and it
shows.  Good luck!
