I was just wondering...I noticed that sometimes when I pet my cat, (and I
have seen other cats do this as well)she moves her skin in sort of a forward
motion.  Is there a reason behind this?

Are you saying you make her skin crawl?  Mine does this too, but she
enjoys it.

Exactly...well put.  She definitely enjoys it, but I was wondering if there
was reason behind her doing it. For instance, I have heard that the reason
cats rub their face against objects/people is because they have glands in
that area that put off their scent.  So I guess that would be a way to mark
their territory.  Is their an explanation regarding the "skin crawling"
behavior?

Nothing to do with territory marking. Hmmm...

I only noticed this with my Charlie (former stray) who has a very sensitive
back, I believe from some former car/human "accident" he had. He doesn;t
like on bit to be touched near the tail or the tail, so I believe he had the
tail broken at some point which healed badly. So now when I am stroking him
if I get too close to sensitive areas his skin is "crawling" and, even
though I don't think he's in pain, he does tend to look at me at that
moment, and if I continue touching that spot, he runs away. He definitely
doesn't like it. My neighbors Timmy does tend to display this too, and
always looks at me like "oye, wot u think u doin" but then calms down.

I dunno, I guess it could be some very sensitive spot we hit(with lots of
nerve endings), which could be either pleasurable or uncomfortable.

I wonder if it's something to do with cat hairs standing up when seeing an
enemy? perhaps we touched the nerve :) For real :)

My cat from many years ago, Muggsy, was very sensitive on his back, riht at the
base of the tail.  If my hand got into that area he would show discomfort,
occassionally bite me, and generally, his skin would crawl.  I doubt this
behaviour in cats has anything to do with past injuries or the like.  I think
it is simply a nervous sensitive thing, which not all cats exhibit.

STOP TOUCHING HIM THERE!

Who says I keep doing it? Once I discovered and realised he doesn;t like it,
of course I try and avoid it. Do you honestly think I like my cat being away
from me!
