My entire family mysteriously became ill with infectious diarrhea. This
happened after my cat became sick with the same problem. I though humans
could not contract diseases from cats.

can some one tell me how this happened?

Bacteria in the home.  You didn't get it from your cat, you all
got it from the same source but your cat just exhibited symptoms
first.

ok that explains that , but I thought that cats where resistant to  human
bacteria's and pathogens.

Did you feed the cat any table scraps, something the rest of your family
also ate?

My bf and his cats (before there was me...) once ate leftover turkey
that hadn't been stored properly. All of them got the big D.

Cats are resistant to MOST humane bacteria...however, it's not unlikely for
cats dogs, or any animal to aquire the common cold from a sick owner which
is more serious in the cat than it is in the owner
