THERE IS AN FUNDAMENTAL FLAW IN OUR LEGAL SYSTEM....THAT ANIMALS
ARE CLASSIFIED AS "PROPERTY" AND HAVE NO INDEPENDENT
OR SELF-DERIVED INTEREST OR VALUE.
One of my goals before I pass on is to see passing of Laws
that will elevate our Pets to a somewhat higher status than a TV set.
The simple fact is that in most States a Pet is considered
"property" only...no rights to be treated better
than a Garbage Disposal unit.Recent years have seen
increases in punishments for Animal Abuse and this I
applaud....however I think Animals still need additional
Laws offering more protection from abuse, abandonment, neglect, etc.
You can go to jail for spitting on a sidewalk, having a broken taillight
lens
and just for threatening someone...but you can
torture an Animal, cause untold suffering, and perhaps death
to your own Pet,abandon them without
food and water or shelter and receive perhaps a slap on the wrist.
Whats wrong with this picture?
which should receive the punishment?
the one who spit on the sidewalk or the one that tortured
and killed a living creature???
ANIMALS ARE ENTITLED TO LEGAL PROTECTION!
THINK ABOUT IT! PLEASE...
And see what you can do about
it in your State
You can buy a great painting and deface it, you can buy a priceless
antique car and make a street rod out of it, you can take old books and
burn them. That's legal. You can strip goldtop Les Pauls and make fake
Bursts out of them, you can saw the peghead off a million dollar
Cremona violin and reset the neck for modern playing. You can chop the
tops off Ferrari Daytona coupes, put 3350 Wrights in Sea Furies,
refinish Colonial furniture.
Yet, you CAN go to jail for animal abuse. You definitely can. You can
go to jail in New York State for shooting a feral cat, but it's OK to
shoot a bobcat. You can go to jail for shooting YOUR OWN cat-or
dog-even if it is old and in pain and you kill it humanely and
instantly. But you can shoot a deer OUT OF SEASON with NO LICENSE and
just pay a game violation fine.
In other words, you have your law.
Rot with it in hell.
