Nursing kitten problem

Hi,

I'm a volunteer with a rescue group.  A few days ago we took in a mom kitty
who was VERY pregnant.  The day after she arrived she delivered 4 darling
little kittens.

It's probably her first litter so she's new to being a mom.  Her foster
parent
is concerned because mom kitty is allowing the kittens to nurse but isn't
cleaning them at all.  Has anyone experienced this behavior before?  Any
suggestions as to how to show her what needs to be done?  The foster parent
is wiping the kittens so they can eliminate but it would be much easier if
mom kitty would take over these duties!

Any comments or suggestions would be welcome.

Thank you.

Keep on with the manual wiping! The mother may or may not start
cleaning her babies.
