best bait for cat trap?

What is a good bait that will have long lasting smell to attract a cat to a
havahart trap?
Just cat food scums over after a day and Im not sure is effective then.

I told you. This is a rescue group. We're all rooting for the cat, not
for the cat-killer. Go cat! LOL

i was hopen for some bait that would last a week or so...cuz thats as often
as I can get to the trap
